YSK that "I's" is not a word (and how to know when to use "and I" vs "and me").
Why YSK: it'll make your writing much clearer to readers!
If you're writing about an item that you share possession of with someone else, you still use "my" like you would if it was only yours. For example, "my and my partner's apartment," not "my partner and I's apartment."
When deciding between "and I" and "and me," imagine the sentence without the other person/people. This will make it clear which to use.
**Example:** Robert **and I** went to the store.
**Explanation:** you wouldn't say "me went to the store" if you take away Robert.
**Example:** Rosalie took her daughters **and me** to lunch.
**Explanation:** without the daughters, you wouldn't say "Rosalie took I to lunch."

YSK that a password manager can create and save a different strong password for every website/Apps
WHY YSK: A password manager is better than using the same password or slight variations of it across multiple accounts. It can generate and store a unique password for each account.
So if one website gets hacked and your password gets leaked, that password won’t work on your other accounts.
You only need to remember one master password for your password manager.
Turn on two-factor authentication for the password manager itself, keep your recovery information somewhere safe, and never share your master password.

YSK: It’s easier you think to DeGoogle and get more online privacy
Why YSK: Google products are generally considered a nightmare for your privacy due to their heavy data collection.
* Personal information: Your name, phone number, gender, date of birth
* Your email addresses
* Where you live
* Where you work
* Your interests
* Things you search for
* Websites you visit
Plus, according to their ToCs, *“we store the information that we collect with unique identifiers tied to the browser, application or device that you’re using.”*
Alternatives:
1. **Chrome** \> Brave / Firefox / Tor
2. **Email** \> Tuta Mail
3. **Photos** \> Ente
4. **Cloud storage** \> Nextcloud / Internxt
5. **Office** \> CryptPad / LibreOffice
6. **Maps** \> OpenStreetMap, OsmAnd
7. **Operating systems** \> LineageOS (mobile), Linux (Ubuntu, Fedora Debian)
8. **Search engine** \> DuckDuckGo / Qwant / Startpage
9. **Calendar** \> Nextcloud Calendar / Tuta Calendar
You can download your data from Google using [ https://takeout.google.com/](https://takeout.google.com/)
Reducing your reliance on Google can greatly improve your online privacy and give you more control over your digital life. Although it may seem daunting at first, tackling it gradually makes the process manageable. I started with Tuta Mail, and invested in a NAS which is use with Nextcloud. The rewards of reclaiming control over your privacy make the effort worthwhile.
Feel free to suggest other helpful resources, the degoogle or privacy guides sub also have some good places to start.

LPT: If you have a dog, don’t train recall to end when they reach you. Train it to end when you have hold of their collar.
A surprising number of dogs will happily run back to their owner and then dodge away the second a hand reaches for their collar. That's funny in the backyard, but it can be disastrous next to some road. Every so often, when your dog comes to you, gently take hold of their collar, give them a good treat, and then let them go again. This last part matters. If grabbing the collar always means the fun is over, dogs can learn to avoid the grab. You want "human grabs my collar" to predict something good, and not "I’m about to lose my freedom". A recall isn’t really finished until you can safely secure the dog.

YSK: Cashew shells can cause serious chemical burns to the workers who process them
Why YSK: In order to get to a cashew, the hard outer shell has to be removed, but that shell contains a substance called 'cashew nut shell liquid' or CNSL. This consists of phenolic compounds including anacardic acids, cardol and cardanol. In simple words: CNSL contains compounds that can irritate and sensitize human skin. This makes repeated exposure of CNSL to the skin very harmful.
Many workers work in unsafe conditions where they are not provided with gloves to protect their hands during the shelling process. This results in multiple, most commonly dermatological health effects like atopic dermatitis, contact urticaria and dry skin. In time, it often prevents them to be able to work and even do basic household tasks because their hands are always in pain.
**How the hell can you know which cashews to purchase?**
* Fairtrade-certified cashews are your best bet, label wise. This often means that workers who shelled them did so with sufficient protective equipment.
* Look for information about the origin on the website/packaging of the seller. If nothing is disclosed, chances are high that they 1) aren't processed in safe conditions for the workers, and 2) that the seller doesn't care.

LPT: If you keep quitting workouts after missing a few days, create a "restart rule" before you need it
Most people don't lose their routine because they miss one workout. They lose it because a small break turns into I'll start again next week.
Create a restart rule in advance:
"If I miss my workout, I don't try to make up for it. I simply return with my next scheduled session."
This removes the guilt and the pressure to have a perfect streak.
A missed day becomes a normal interruption instead of a reason to quit.
The goal isn't to never break your routine. The goal is to make returning automatic.

YSK: When a relationship ends, you don't have to lose the good dynamics you built. You can repurpose them into a solid friendship.
**Why YSK:** Society often tells us that a breakup means burning bridges and completely cutting ties. While that is absolutely necessary for toxic relationships, if a breakup is amicable, you can actually transition the healthy, caring habits you had as a couple into your new platonic reality.
Breakups are tough, but sometimes a relationship ends simply because you aren't compatible romantically, not because you don't care about each other. When transitioning from partners to friends, keeping some of the positive routines or "perks" you shared can make the shift much easier and show that you still value each other as human beings.
Here is a personal example: I recently went through a breakup. My ex works at a bar, and when we were dating, I used to spend a lot of hours hanging out there. To help me save money, my ex would buy separate, cheaper drinks specifically to serve me while I was there. We recently decided to end the romantic side of things, but we are staying friends. The best part? My ex still maintains that little perk for me.
It’s a small gesture, but it’s a beautiful reminder that the care and friendship we built didn't just vanish because the romantic label is gone.
If you are navigating a friendly breakup, look at the things that did work. Did you share a weekly movie night? Did you always send each other articles about a specific niche interest? Did you have a little inside joke or a helpful routine? You don't have to throw those away.
Obviously, this requires clear boundaries and sometimes a little bit of space to heal first. But once the dust settles, repurposing those good dynamics can help you build a really unique, supportive friendship out of a relationship that didn't work out.

LPT: When applying for rentals, freeze your credit
At least in the US. Rental applications can ask for a TON of personal information (such as SSN for background check). I just learned this almost the hard way, where things got sketchy after I met the landlord, toured the house, and filled out the application. Landlord wanted a Zelle transfer before I saw a lease. I told him I’m ready to make the security deposit as soon as we have a signed lease agreement. He’s been pushing it off day by day, so I froze my lines of credit.
You can very easily and quickly freeze and unfreeze your Transunion, Equifax, and Experian credit and it will not negatively impact anything on your credit or in relation to a pending rental application. However, if someone is trying to steal your identity, this is a critical prevention step you can take.
Don’t wait until it’s sketchy! If you’re looking to move, just do it!

YSK- How Anthropic's (Claude) new AI watermarking system works, it's not a watermark embedded in a response, rather it's a watermark on the AI's choices.
Edit: grammar
Why YSK: In compliance with the EU's new AI regulations Anthropic has integrated a watermarking system. It is not just a pseudo-physical digital tell like the "metadata" that would be removed if you just replicated the response text in a different environment. (i.e re-typed a paragraph on a google doc)
This applies to essentially all responses from Claude AI models from now on, and worldwide not just in the EU.
For example, if you asked Claude to generate a """painting""" of it's ten favourite fruits the choices of fruits, the order of the fruits that appear on the image, the positions of the fruits on the """painting""", the colours of the fruits, the sizes of the fruits depicted etc.
All of these choices are influenced by the watermarking process.
So while yes, you could just screenshot the AI's response and essentially scrub the signed provenance metadata, you can't remove the actual watermarks.
Just to give you a super rough estimate, likelihood of 2 different entities having an identical list of fruits, order of fruits and depictions of said fruits is around \~1 in a hundred million to even several hundreds of billions.
While not the exact system implemented, you can read about a comparable system known as "SYNTH-ID" here:
[ https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-024-08025-4#Abs1](https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-024-08025-4#Abs1)
You can read about how Claude specifically does it here:
[ https://support.claude.com/en/articles/16266773-how-claude-marks-ai-generated-content](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/16266773-how-claude-marks-ai-generated-content)

LPT: If your computer feels slow or "glitchy," check your Uptime. Because of features like "Fast Startup," clicking "Shut Down" doesn't actually fully reset your system anymore. A "Restart" is often the only way to truly refresh it.
Most people assume that shutting down their computer every night clears out errors. It doesn't. On Windows (due to "Fast Startup") and macOS, "Shut Down" saves the state of the kernel to the disk to make the next boot faster.
This means small software bugs and memory leaks stay in the system for weeks.
How to check your "True" Uptime:
Windows: Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) > Performance tab > CPU. Look at "Up time" at the bottom.
macOS: Open Terminal and type uptime.
The Fix:
Use the "Restart" button specifically. This is the only command that forces the OS to fully kill every process and reload the kernel from scratch.
It fixes about 50% of "unexplained" lag instantly. If your uptime is more than 7 days, you are overdue for a real Restart.

YSK that Play Store lets apps lie about what data they collect. The 'Data Safety' section on Play Store is completely self-reported and never verified.
Why YSK: I was curious what my android apps actually do vs what they claim, so I ran a few through Exodus Privacy. One of my weather apps claimed "no data shared with third parties" in the Data Safety section. Exodus found 7 trackers including trackers from major ad networks and tech companies. That's when I went deeper.
Mozilla analyzed thousands of apps in 2023 and found the majority straight up lied in their Data Safety labels. An app says "no data collected" while running ad trackers from major tech companies the moment you open it. Oxford University ran an independent study and found the same thing. This isn't an edge case, it's the norm.
Play Store doesn't audit these claims. There's no technical verification. Developers fill out a form, check some boxes, and whatever they write goes live. It's the honor system for companies whose entire business model is selling your data.
if you want to verify this yourself:
\- Exodus Privacy (open source tracker database, scans any app for hidden trackers)
\- AppXpose (scans the APK directly on your Android device)
\- Play Store Data Safety section (for comparison with the above)
\- Mozilla Foundation 2023 report (the full study with findings)
good luck sleeping after that.

A lot of people wait until they feel confident before they start speaking a new language, but that usually slows things down. Speaking is a different skill from reading or listening, and the only way to improve is by actually doing it even if it feels awkward at first.
Short, simple practice sessions where you actively speak can help much more than just passive learning. Over time, it starts to feel more natural

YSK that if you wait 24 hours before making a non-essential purchase, you’ll avoid most impulse spending
A simple way to control impulse buying is to create a personal rule: if something isn’t essential, wait at least 24 hours before purchasing it. If you still want it after that, then go ahead.
This works especially well for online shopping, where it’s easy to buy things instantly without thinking twice.
**Why YSK:**
Delaying decisions helps you shift from impulsive to intentional thinking, which improves financial discipline over time. It reduces unnecessary spending, builds better awareness of your habits, and helps you prioritize long-term goals over short-term gratification.
