ASEAN SUMMIT 2026: PM HUN MANET SET TO JOIN REGIONAL LEADERS'S MEETING IN CEBU
May 5, 2026 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet is set to join regional leaders at the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Republic of the Philippines, from May 7 to 8, according to an official press release.
Leading a high-level delegation, the Prime Minister is attending at the invitation of Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., President of the Philippines and the 2026 ASEAN Chair.
The Prime Minister will be accompanied by First Lady Pich Chanmony Hun Manet and a senior government delegation, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Prak Sokhonn and other high-level dignitaries.

OVER 4,000 FOREIGN NATIONALS DETAINED IN BANTEAY MEANCHEY SCAM CRACKDOWN
May 4, 2026 – Authorities in Banteay Meanchey province conducted a massive 53-day operation targeting illegal online scamming hubs between March 12 and May 3, leading to the arrest of thousands of foreign nationals.
In an interview with BTV News, Provincial Governor Oum Reatrey confirmed the detention of 4,199 foreigners involved in technology-based fraud during the nearly two-month sweep.
The crackdown focused on multiple buildings used to covertly organize cybercrimes. NEW CONSCRIPTION LAW SETS 2-YEAR SERVICE, STRICT PENALTIES FOR EVASION
May 4, 2026 — Cambodia is preparing to implement a new military service law that would require male citizens aged 18 to 25 to serve 24 months, while those who evade service could face prison terms of up to five years.
The proposal was discussed by the National Assembly’s Commission on Interior, National Defense, Civil Service, and Border Affairs (4th Commission), led by Chairman Kep Chuktema, in talks with representatives of the Royal Government led by Minister of National Defense General Tea Seiha on the morning of May 4.
The draft law on military service is intended to strengthen national defense, protect territorial integrity, and promote patriotism among Cambodian youth.

CAMBODIA’S KOH RONG RANKS 9th GLOBALLY IN "WORLD’S 50 BEST BEACHES"
May 4, 2026 — Koh Rong in Cambodia’s Preah Sihanouk province has been ranked 9th globally among the world’s most beautiful beaches in the latest international list published by The World's Best Beaches.
The Cambodian island destination was recognized for its natural beauty, placing alongside some of the world’s most renowned beach destinations.
According to the ranking, Entalula Beach in the Philippines claimed the top spot, followed by Fteri Beach in Greece.
