🏛A Sunday Seminar with Dr. Aleksandr Kapitonov

"If Bitcoin was the first money for robots, Ethereum gave them their first contracts."

This Sunday afternoon, we're hosting a seminar for students who plan to apply to college soon, and for anyone serious about where robotics, AI, and the modern sciences are actually headed.

Dr. Aleksandr Kapitonov holds a PhD and serves as Associate Professor and Dean of the Specialized Schools at New Uzbekistan University. He has a long list of research publications and has been a guest speaker at MIT, Berkeley, and Stanford.

He has spent sixteen years working with Robot Operating System (ROS), the de facto standard for the field. He judges the International Robot Olympiad and trains finalist teams.

As co-founder of http://Robonomics.network/, he is building the infrastructure for robots to hold their own identities, contracts, and economic autonomy. The Bicentennial Man question, made engineering.

His reading list runs from Gibson's Neuromancer to the Strugatskys' Noon: 22nd Century. His research runs from ROS internals to robot insurance and human-robot interaction.

The format is a presentation followed by a live Q&A.

Bring your sharpest questions on autonomy, LLMs, the future of engineering careers, and what ambitious high schoolers should be building right now to get there.

"It is Just a Walk"

The mission of Agora was (and still is increasingly) to gather intellectual diverse minds and give them the fitting resources so that they can have this continous intellectual exchange.

While it has often been possible in our paid programs, we knew we had to extend our mission beyond just the classrooms.

In the last quarter of 2025, we started a small and quirky club: walk-and-talk. The idea was simple. Just to walk and talk. Physical networking with unique minds.

Over time, the club grew. Grew rapidly. Somewhere in the middle, we started partnering with the IT Community of Uzbekistan. More members. More well-known guests.

And now, with our guests like https://www.linkedin.com/in/kapitonovaleksandr/ of NUU sharing such opportunities in our community, we believe we are on the right track to achieve our mission. To form this little hub of intellectuals who also happen to enjoy walking.

Elbek joined the Orwell Community last year mid of July.

He came in to learn how to write a personal statement. How to make it better. How to make it actually work.

He'll tell you himself he couldn't keep up with everything during the program. The tasks were heavy. But what he did keep up with changed how he writes.

Here's what he said:

Most of my peers were attending Agora by late spring last year. I was thinking about taking a gap year.

During this journey, to improve my writing skills, I felt Agora's curriculum and materials would help me the most.

I graduated Agora in the middle of September. During October to November, I continued writing essay drafts and reflections and applied to Asian universities, including CUHK, HKU, and UKyoto.

Starting from January, the decisions came out. I got into all three. To UKyoto with full tuition.

The writing changed immediately after I understood the core of writing personal statements: Intellectual Vitality, Academic Points of Excellence, and Texture.
It required writing tons of reflections for the reading materials. To be honest, I couldn't keep up with doing homework at 100%, because it required focus, thinking, and long time for studying.

Agora should be a must-course for everyone no matter if they are applying to colleges or not. Every person needs to learn how to write, think, and reflect in life.

Before Agora I underestimated the importance of deep thinking while crafting writing. Now, it helped me not only to build stronger essays that was one of the main factors in my acceptances, but also to consistently run a digital archive of my thoughts and experiences for myself in Obsidian and others on my Telegram blog.
