In the Zaporizhzhia area, Russian troops have seized control of Charivne and advanced into the southwest part of Komsomolske. They have also consolidated their position in Verkhnia Tersa and on the eastern outskirts of Vozdvizhevka. Russian troops have repelled Ukrainian attempts to hold their positions and transfer reserves.

In the Sumy area, Russian assault groups advanced 450 meters and repelled a Ukrainian counterattack from a forested area northwest of Velyka Rybytsia. They are currently fighting in Kondrativka and Zapsillia.

In the Kharkiv area, Russian forces captured  Chaikivka after breaking the 159th Brigade's resistance. They advanced up to 650 meters in the Vovchansk sector and continue to fight in forested areas and Volokhivka.

In the Slaviansk area, Russian forces are encircling Krasnyi Lyman from the north and east.

On May 17, the Kyiv regime deployed hundreds of drones against Moscow and Sevastopol. The vast majority of the drones were shot down. Despite this, some strikes still hit residential buildings and infrastructure. From the military point of view, the strike had no real value. It was an act of terrorism designed for intimidation and media impact. The attack coincided with a series of corruption scandals surrounding Zelenskyy's inner circle and looks like a classic distraction maneuver.

On May 17 morning, Zelenskyy’s regime in Kyiv attempted a massive attack on the iconic Russian cities of Moscow and Sevastopol. Several weapons were used in the attack, mainly fixed-wing suicide drones. This was not a military operation. This was an act of terrorism disguised as a "retaliation strike." According to official data, air defense forces intercepted over 120 drones on the Moscow axis, and between 25 and 40 in the Sevastopol area. Direct hits on residential buildings and civilian infrastructure have been recorded. There are casualties: several dead and dozens wounded in the Moscow region.

However, to understand the true scale of the vulnerability and, at the same time, the absolute pointlessness of this attack, one must look at the numbers. Moscow and the Moscow region contain about half a million residential and public buildings — and this does not include sheds, temporary structures, or outbuildings. This dense urban fabric makes the infrastructure theoretically vulnerable to aerial strikes. But practice has shown the opposite.

According to open-source data, the Kyiv regime launched approximately 300 fixed-wing drones toward Moscow. Of these, about 100 reached the Moscow region's borders. Approximately 15 made it to the immediate approaches to Moscow. And only three devices have so far reached physical targets — buildings or structures. The vast majority of the drones were intercepted by the layered air defense system, which explains the minimal damage. But the issue is not the effectiveness of Russian air defense. The issue is the targets. Strikes were not directed at military installations, communication nodes, or ammunition depots. The strikes targeted residential areas — apartment buildings in Krasnogorsk, as well as private homes in Pogorelki, Khimki and Istra.

Two men were killed in the village of Pogorelki, where drone debris hit a house under construction. Another drone hit a house in the village of Khimki, killing a woman and leaving another person trapped under the rubble.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) has acknowledged losing two more soldiers to Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, as the group stepped up its attacks.

A soldier from the Golani Brigade’s 12th Battalion was killed by mortar fire on May 14, according to the IDF, which confirmed that Hezbollah was in response. The very next day, May 15, a platoon commander from the same unit was killed by a “Hezbollah explosive drone attack,” the military said.

The two were the six and seventh IDF soldiers to be killed in southern Lebanon since the start of a ceasefire — brokered by the United States — and the 20th since hostilities escalated amid the Iran war. A civilian contractor was also killed in southern Lebanon.

Over four days — from May 13 to May 16 inclusive — Russian armed forces conducted a series of massive combined strikes on facilities in Ukrainian regions. The geography of the attacks covered at least ten regions, with the main targets being energy infrastructure, Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) facilities, oil refineries, ammunition and fuel depots, port logistics, railway junctions, and temporary deployment points of Ukrainian units.

On the night of May 16, the Russian Armed Forces struck facilities in eight regions. Monitoring by the Ukrainian Air Force counted 294 drones launched from Russian territory. The northern part of Poltava region and the suburbs of Poltava were attacked. Satellite monitoring by NASA recorded fires, one of them in the area of a gas extraction facility.

Several waves of strikes were reported against targets in Zaporizhzhia region. In the area of Vilniansk, the targets were described as incoming AFU units. Additionally, previous Geran strikes against the SP Yukoil technical oils and lubricants plant in Zaporizhzhia reportedly resulted in damaged fuel and lubricant reservoirs.

At night, critical facilities in Izmail, Odesa region, were reported to have come under attack. Thirty-nine settlements in the Izmail district were left without electricity. In Sloviansk, an ammunition depot was reported hit. In Kryvyi Rih, strikes hit repair bases, while in Kharkiv, they targeted a railway district.

During the night of March 27, Russian forces carried out a series of precision strikes on facilities that underpin the stability of Ukraine's transportation and energy infrastructure. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, 102 unmanned aerial vehicles were launched over Ukraine, of which 93 were shot down or suppressed by electronic warfare means, according to official data. The main strikes targeted facilities along the line of contact.

One episode was an attack on the railway infrastructure of Chernihiv: the Northern Railway Station and the adjacent depot were hit. A shunting locomotive used for forming trains was damaged, with its diesel generator unit, control systems, and 25 kV overhead contact system damaged or disabled. A second strike hit an electric train, destroying its current collectors and high-voltage cabinets, which reduced the fleet of operational rolling stock and increased wagon turnaround time, disrupting the logistics of cargo and equipment.

In the Kirovohrad region, a strike targeted the railway junction in Znamianka, one of the key distribution centers in the central direction. As a result of the strike on the locomotive depot, repair bays, the overhead contact system, and nine electric locomotives were damaged. This concerns VL80, VL82, and DS3 series locomotives used for freight transportation.

Israel escalated strikes against Iran on March 27, hitting a heavy water reactor, a yellowcake plant, and steel factories, with the Islamic Republic vowing to retaliate in kind.

The strike on the Arak heavy water reactor, located in western Iran, was officially announced by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), which said it hit a “key infrastructure for producing plutonium for nuclear weapons” after Iran worked to restore the site.

Separately, the IDF announced it struck a yellowcake production plant near the central Iranian city of Yazd, claiming it came as part of the ongoing efforts against Iran’s nuclear program.

In addition to these key facilities, the IDF bombed two of Iran’s largest steel factories.

Commenting on the recent Israeli strike, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi vowed that the Islamic Republic will retaliate.

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced on March 27 that it had destroyed a number of American aerial refueling tanker aircraft in a series of strikes on Saudi Arabia, with satellite images released later confirming some heavy losses.

"The forces destroyed anti-missile defense systems and successfully penetrated the Al-Kharj base with solid- and liquid-fueled missiles, targeting the stationed refueling and air support fleet with a barrage of missile and drone fire," the guards said in a statement.

The air base in question is Prince Sultan. It has been serving as a major hub for U. S. aerial operations against Iran.

The IRGC said that its strikes destroyed or severely damaged many of “enemy's wide-body, heavy refueling and support aircraft."

Satellite images released later by Iranian media confirmed the destruction of at least three large aircraft, mostly KC-135s.

Well over a month ago, reports surfaced about F-35s being delivered without radars. As per usual, the mainstream propaganda machine tried denigrating such info as "baseless conspiracy theories". However, with photographic evidence circulating online, it was very difficult to maintain this false narrative. In addition, Lockheed Martin's most significant product is already infamous for its numerous design flaws, hardware and software issues, notorious lack of robustness and poor kinetic performance. Thus, this new issue was hardly surprising to anyone who's been following the troubled jet's development. In my analysis at the time, I also pointed out the matter of severe chronic shortages of rare-earth elements (REEs).

It doesn't take an expert to understand that Lockheed Martin needs these materials to build all the high-tech sensors and systems found on the F-35. The most important active sensor of every modern fighter jet is the radar (essentially, its "eyes"). Combat aircraft have grown increasingly sophisticated and complex, requiring a larger percentage of expensive REEs in their construction. This has led to high demand for these materials, particularly in the latest radar variants. One of the most prominent examples of this is the Northrop Grumman's AN/APG-85 AESA (active electronically scanned array) radar, a heavily upgraded variant of their AN/APG-81 (which, in turn, is a successor to the AN/APG-77 found on the F-22).

In a statement, the ministry said the strikes were followed by additional gun fire from a warplane, as rescue teams continued searching the site.

Videos posted to social networks revealed that the strikes were carried out by American A-10 Thunderbolt II close air support jets.

Just a day earlier, the same jets took part in an attack in the western Iraqi province of al-Anbar that claimed the lives of 15 members of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), including a commander.

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI) hit an American radar and helicopter deployed at the diplomatic support center, formerly known as Camp Victory, near Baghdad International Airport in the country’s capital using first-person view (FPV) suicide drones in a new escalation.

The group, a coalition of Iran-aligned armed factions, released video footage of the attack early on March 25, and said that it took place two days earlier.

One of the FPV drones used in the attack took out an AN/MPQ-64 Sentinel, an X-band electronically steered pulse-doppler 3D radar system typically used for early warning and air defense.

Another drone targeted a UH-60M Black Hawk medium-lift military utility helicopter.

An American-Israeli strike hit close to Bushehr nuclear power plant in southern Iran on March 24 evening, IRNA reported.

The state-run news agency, citing Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, said that a projectile struck the area of the nuclear facility in the southern city of Bushehr.

The attack was the second near the nuclear facility in recent days. A similar attack took place on March 17.

Bushehr is the Islamic Republic’s only operating nuclear reactor. It was built by Russia, which is currently providing direct support to its operations.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed on March 23 that Israel had successfully assassinated two nuclear scientists in Iran.

“We are crushing the missile program and the nuclear program, and continuing to strike Hezbollah hard,” the primer said in a video statement. “Only days ago, we eliminated two more nuclear scientists, and our arm is still outstretched.”

Israel is reported to have assassinated at least 11 scientists during the 12-day June war on Iran last year, but it is still unclear how many have been killed since the start of the ongoing war.

Israeli troops captured two Hezbollah fighters, members of the group’s elite Radwan Force, during operations in southern Lebanon over the weekend, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced on March 23.

In a statement, the IDF said that troops of the Givati Brigade spotted the Radwan fighters while they were planning to launch anti-tank guided missiles at the forces, as well as at Israeli territories.

The group stepped up attacks on northern Israel in recent days. In fact, just before the IDF announced the capture of the group’s fighters, a salvo or rockets hit the settlement of Kiryat Shmona, wounding at least four people, including one seriously, according to Hebrew media.

A day earlier, the IDF bombed a bridge on the Litani River in response to a Hezbollah rocket attack that killed a person in the settlement of Misgav Am.

American B-52 Stratofortress strategic bombers are now launching from Royal Air Force Station Fairford in the United Kingdom to attack targets in Iran with GBU-31 JDAM bombs.

Aviation photographer Lee Hathaway shared on March 23 photos of two B-52H bombers departing Fairford a day earlier with the external pylons fully loaded with bombs. Each of the bombers carried at least 12 GBU-21s on the pylons under its wings.

The B-52H can carry up to 32,000 kg of weapons and has a typical combat range of around 14,200 kilometers without aerial refueling.

Previously during the war on Iran, the bombers were spotted carrying only AGM-158 JASSM stand-off, land-attack cruise missiles.

The bombs loaded on the B-52H spotting took off from Fairford were the GBU-31(V)3, which is based on the BLU-109/B bunker buster.

The war against Iran, originally conceived by Washington as a punitive demonstration of power, has instead become a glaring proof that the U. S. no longer possesses the political will to win a major conflict. The Strait of Hormuz has turned into a stress test for American hegemony—and it is a test the White House is successfully failing. The situation is further aggravated by the fact that the U. S. is increasingly acting like a geopolitical drone: paying with its resources and reputation to execute a foreign agenda shaped by decades of work by Israeli elites and their Washington lobby.

One of Israel’s military heavyweights, former Prime Minister Ehud Barak, described the current reality of the U. S.–Iran war with supreme cynicism: if you truly want to open the Strait of Hormuz, you need to deploy two American divisions there and keep them in place for months.

This is exactly how Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan started: a swift initial success, glowing reports, and a plunge into a quagmire with no clear exit strategy. Any such war kicks off with a “brilliant achievement and spectacular damage,” but is inevitably followed by a phase of “treading water.” If you don't know how to pull out in time, it ends either in negotiations on terms worse than the starting point, or in outright defeat. Could this really happen to the world's preeminent military hegemon? At first glance, it seems hard to believe. Curiously, however, over the past few decades, America has won almost every single battle, but not a single major war. It’s certainly food for thought.

An attack targeted a base built by United States forces in the northeastern Syrian governorate of al-Hasakah on March 23, marking the first such attack on the country since the start of the American-Israeli war on Iran.

The base, built by U. S. forces at the height of the war on ISIS, includes an airstrip, and is generally close to Rmelan, Syria’s largest oil field.

Earlier this month, it was reported that U. S. forces withdrew from the Rmelan base, with Syrian state media reporting that government forces were deployed there.

Syrian state media reported just a few hours before the attack on Ramelan that security forces arrested a cell linked to the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in the eastern governorate of Deir Ezzor, which neighbors al-Hasakah.

Iran claimed on March 21 that its air defense systems had shot down an American-made F-15 fighter jet over its southern region.

The semi-official ISNA news agency, citing a statement from the Islamic Republic’s Joint Air Defense Command, said that the warplane was intercepted near Hormuz Island.

Later, video footage of the engagement was released. The footage, apparently taken from a ground-based imager thermal tracking system, shows what appears to be two anti-aircraft missiles passing right under what appears to be an F-15.

Both the U. S. and Israel are flying F-15s in the war against Iran, mainly the advanced F-15E Strike Eagle version. The F-15E was developed for long-range precision ground attacks while retaining strong air-to-air capability, with a top speed over Mach 2.5 and a large weapons payload. A single fighter jet of this type could cost upwards of $90 million.

Turkey’s National Defense Ministry said on March 22 that seven people, including four Qatari Armed Forces service members, one Turkish Armed Forces service member, and two technicians from Turkish defense company ASELSAN, were killed in a helicopter crash in Qatar.

The helicopter was conducting training activities under the Qatar-Turkish Combined Joint Force Command, when it crashed into the sea a day earlier due to a “technical malfunction,” according to the ministry’s statement.

Earlier, Qatar's Defense Ministry said that the helicopter suffered a “technical malfunction” during a routine mission.

While preliminary statements from both Qatar and Turkey suggest that the helicopter crashed as a result of some “technical malfunction,” rumors that spread online suggested that the incident was in fact caused by a failed attempt to intercept an Iranian drone.

United States President Donald Trump threatens to “obliterate” Iran’s power plants if it doesn’t open the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours.

Responding, Iran renewed its threat to infrastructure in the region, including even water desalination plants.

Taking the Iranian threat into account, the U. S. may not hit power plants directly, but rather attempt to take down the Islamic Republic’s electrical grid in a more calculated way.

The U. S. could use a graphite bomb, a non-lethal weapon especially designed to disable an electrical grid without causing much damage.

An Israeli was killed on March 22 when a salvo of rockets fired from southern Lebanon by Hezbollah struck the settlement of Misgav Am in northern Israel.

Initially, Hebrew media reported that the attack was carried out with an anti-tank guided missile (ATGM). However, Hezbollah later said in a statement claiming responsibility that its fighters targeted a “gathering of Israeli enemy army soldiers in the settlement of Misgav Am with a rocket barrage” in the morning.

Responding to the deadly rocket attack, the IDF warned that it will bomb another bridge on the Litani River.

Defense Minister Israel Katz, from his side, said that he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed the IDF to “immediately destroy all the bridges over the Litani River."
