🌐 Recent peer-reviewed article by Shaimerden Chikanayev on the new nuclear "Great Game" in Central Asia and the role of small nuclear power plants (so-called SMRs) in it, was published in the East Asia Forum.
Importantly, on 15 April 2026, after Shaimerden's article was written, Kazakhstan adopted its Nuclear Industry Development Strategy until 2050 (the "Strategy").

🛫Экономико-правовые предпосылки применения Кейптаунской конвенции в Узбекистане
В настоящее время авиационная отрасль Республики Узбекистан проходит активный этап реформирования, сопровождающийся обновлением парка воздушных судов, расширением маршрутной сети и усилением интеграции в международный рынок авиаперевозок. Данные процессы обусловливают возрастающую роль внешнего финансирования и лизинговых механизмов в структуре развития национального сектора.
Масштаб модернизации подтверждается конкретными инвестиционными решениями ведущих узбекских авиаперевозчиков. В частности, авиакомпания Uzbekistan Airways заключила твердый контракт с компанией Boeing на поставку 14 широкофюзеляжных самолетов Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner с дополнительным опционом ещё на 8 воздушных судов данного типа.

💠The “Tamchy” Special Financial Investment Territory (hereinafter referred to as the “Tamchy” SFIT) constitutes a designated part of the Issyk-Kul Region of the Kyrgyz Republic, with boundaries determined by the President of the Kyrgyz Republic (Law of the Kyrgyz Republic No. 136 of July 10, 2025, “On the Special Financial Investment Territory “Tamchy” with a Special Legal Regime and Status,” hereinafter referred to as the Law on the “Tamchy” SFIT).
The establishment of the “Tamchy” SFIT is aimed at fostering economic development in the Kyrgyz Republic, attracting investment, improving the investment climate, and creating a competitive investment jurisdiction. This includes the development of the financial sector, infrastructure, tourism, and other industries.

🖇 On 16 April, GRATA International, in partnership with the British-Kazakh Society, hosted an in-person seminar at the AIFC in Astana titled “Legal Risks for Subsoil Users and Foreign Investors under the Land Law of Kazakhstan.”
The seminar brought together representatives of the legal and business community to explore the key legal and regulatory challenges faced by subsoil users and foreign investors operating in Kazakhstan.
The session was led by Gani Sagimbekov, Senior Associate, who shared valuable insights and hands-on experience in handling complex land law matters.
Beyond the substantive discussions, the event also provided a valuable platform for professional networking and exchange of perspectives among participants.

🛫Economic and Legal Preconditions for the Application of the Cape Town Convention in Uzbekistan
The aviation sector of the Republic of Uzbekistan is currently undergoing an active phase of reform, accompanied by the modernization of the aircraft fleet, expansion of the route network, and deeper integration into the international air transport market. These developments have led to the increasing importance of external financing and leasing mechanisms in the development of the national aviation sector.
The scale of this modernization is confirmed by specific investment decisions made by leading Uzbek air carriers. In particular, Uzbekistan Airways has entered into a firm contract with Boeing for the delivery of 14 wide-body Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, with an additional option for eight more aircraft of the same type.
