Seven Nations Skip Paralympics Ceremony After Russia Flag Decision

Organisers of the Milan-Cortina Paralympics confirmed that seven countries will boycott the opening ceremony following the decision to allow Russian athletes to compete under their national flag.

The International Paralympic Committee ruled that six Russian and four Belarusian athletes could take part under their own flags, reversing restrictions imposed after the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

As a result, Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland and Czechia will not attend the opening ceremony in Verona. IPC officials stated they respect the decision of those National Paralympic Committees.

Meanwhile, teams from Canada, Britain, Germany and France will also skip the ceremony, but organisers say that decision is related to performance preparation rather than political protest.
