If you've not seen this, you need to. This is a less known 1990s film about John Gotti and the mob that outclasses most gangster films. This should have been a long series. The piano piece in this I have loved for years. My only regret with this film is that it wasn't far longer, or as I said, made into a series. Every now and then I watch it to take in the world in which they create. Of course, they make the characters seem more noble than they really were, but that's to be expected. This film is free on You Tube, so, if you've not yet seen it, watch it, and thank me later.

The "sad horse" is a celebrated masterpiece in the British Museum's Parthenon Sculptures collection.
Sculpted in (438-432 BC), this piece of Pentelic marble originally adorned the East pediment of the Parthenon in Athens.

Depicting the head of Selene's chariot horse, it is renowned for its visceral depiction of exhaustion. Its gaping jaw, flared nostrils, and bulging eyes evoke a beast weary from its nightly journey across the sky.

In Greek mythology, it represents one of the horses pulling the moon goddess, Selene's chariot. The tense muscles, flattened ears, and stressed anatomy capture the exhaustion of a horse just finishing its nightly work.

Upon first seeing him, it appears humorous. But look a little longer, and it becomes a profound image of torment and hardship. It's insane to think of how talented and artistic people were thousands of years ago. Modern architects and artists would benefit from looking to the past for inspiration as opposed to wherever they're getting it today. ⏳️

The often ignored 1898 (Victorian) water fountain which is a beautifully carved, polished granite monument, in Valentines Park (Ilford) is an ornate Victorian drinking fountain that was presented to the community by Councillor William P. Griggs of Cranbrook Park just before the estate transitioned into a public park.

Complimented by the bloom of the trees, it sits as a reminder of when beauty created a heightened standard of excellence, unlike much of what's being produced today.

Once upon a time, people could rely on such useful fixtures for sustenance, while today, people are more inclined to buy a can of coke or spending money on plastic bottles.

Modern water foundations that do exist look more at home on space ships.

This spot is a short walk from Tower Hill Station, Tower Gateway, Aldgate, or Fenchurch Street Station. The tour will end right beside London Bridge Station.

Each tour will last roughly between 3-1/2 to 4 hours (or more) and will include several pubs that we will both visit and pass. We will be visiting some of #London's most famous and impressive locations, and of course, pubs, whilst venturing into various historical epochs. If you need to leave early, then please let me know at the time, and I'll direct you.

Prices: £20 per person (for over 18s),
16-18: £10
Under 16s: Free (If accompanied by a paying adult)

Malham Cove via Janet’s Foss. Just under 4 miles.

I’d assumed as I was coming on a Monday outside of school holidays it wouldn’t be that busy. I was very wrong.

The route is well walked and signposted regularly.

I only let Ellie walk a little as we have some more adventures planned for the next few days on a trip into the Yorkshire Dales.

I find images like that of Foster Dixon, the stonemason making repairs to Hadrian's Wall in the 1950s give me a greater sense of who I am than whatever the hell modern society would have me think of myself.
