As we approach the month of Muharram and the Day of Ashura, we should remember the story of Muslim ibn Aqeel, who was targeted by the tyrannical regime of the time. People who had once stood with Muslim suddenly turned their backs on him out of fear or some other worldly reason, instead of standing firm in defense of him and the truth.

We hear that story every year, yet we repeat the same folly by abandoning those among us who are a thorn in the side of the tyrants. In this interview, Sayyed Zaidi spoke about how he was abandoned by many people within the community and how it is a mistake to think that sitting on our hands and minding our own business will prevent us from being targeted.

Martyr Malcolm Shabazz, the grandson of Martyr Malcolm X, also dealt with the same issue. When the FBI started to harass him and his family, some people in the community abandoned him.

🇮🇷🇺🇸| Fars News says contrary to what some media outlets (NYtimes) are trying to suggest, in the “MoU agreement” Iran has made no commitment to hand over its nuclear stockpiles, remove equipment, shut down facilities, or even commit to not building a nuclear bomb.

In return, the parties have agreed to release all or part of Iran’s frozen funds as a step toward entering negotiations.

According to the draft, passage through the Strait of Hormoz will be restored to pre-war levels while it remains under Iran’s management, with the US naval blockade lifted.

In addition, sanctions on oil, gas, petrochemicals, and their derivatives will be temporarily lifted during the negotiation period.

Some of us don't have good answers to that question.

Some only seem to pay attention to martyrs when they're Arab or Persian, but not when the martyr has dark skin. Some don't even pay attention to dark-skinned Iranian martyrs from southern regions like Hormozgan — Minab and Bandar Abbas only became part of their vocab only after a school of children got blown up. While the Prophet (S) had Bilal and Imam Hussain (as) had Jawn, some of our people's view of black skin is no different than the Jewish Talmud's racist interpretation of the Curse of Ham.

Or maybe it is some people's "holier than thou" complex of self-righteousness, where they smugly pass off Young Malcolm because they can't imagine a martyr who has tattoos (a mark of his past before redemption) or wears his hair in cornrows. They commit the sin of slander and backbiting about Malcolm's past, in an act of clear rejection of God's mercy, forgiveness, and that the road to redemption and repentance is open to all, a road that Malcolm took, but will the rumor-mongerers take the same path to ask forgiveness for their sinful, slanderous tongues?

Bahrain’s ruling authorities today began arresting dozens of senior and prominent Shiite clerics and seminary instructors in what Al-Wefaq described as a dangerous and provocative step that violates all laws, customs, international conventions, and Islamic and moral values.

Sectarian Targeting Under the Shadow of Regional Conflict in #Bahrain

The wave of arrests announced by Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior raises profound concerns among large segments of Bahraini society.

Since the early hours of today, dozens of prominent Shiite clerics and members of the Islamic Scholars Council have reportedly been detained, including figures with no known involvement in political activity or public political positions.

These arrests follow years of prison sentences, citizenship revocations, and deportations targeting other members of the same community.

For many Bahrainis, these measures deepen fears that individuals may increasingly face persecution not for criminal conduct, but because of their religious or intellectual identity.

Such fears intensify amid the atmosphere surrounding the ongoing regional confrontation with Iran, where political tensions risk spilling over into domestic sectarian policies.

The detention of religious scholars — particularly those without political affiliations — sends a troubling message that even non-political religious presence may now be perceived through a security lens.

This development risks transforming legitimate religious and social spaces into arenas of fear and intimidation.

History repeatedly demonstrates that states achieve stability not through collective punishment or sectarian escalation, but through justice, inclusion, and equal protection under the law.

Policies rooted in discrimination and ideological exclusion may produce temporary control, but they leave behind deep societal fractures whose consequences endure for generations.

Malcolm Latif Shabazz, the grandson and only male heir of Malcolm X/el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz, was killed in Mexico City on May 9, 2013, in what media portrayed as a bar fight, but his supporters blame on “US and Zionist intelligence networks.”

￭ Raised in a family torn apart by COINTELPRO and his grandfather’s assassination, Shabazz had a rough childhood, and discovered revolutionary Islam while incarcerated.
