⭐ MAINS ROADMAP: 3 MONTHS
📝Query:
Dear Anjushree,
Thank you for sharing your journey. Clearing multiple prelims and even qualifying RRB PO Mains is already a very good sign. It shows that your basics are strong, and with a little more focused preparation at the Mains level, you can definitely convert it into a final selection.
If you are consistently scoring 90%+ percentile in Prelims Mocks, then from now onwards you should start gradually shifting your focus towards Mains preparation. However, this strategy is mainly for those whose target exams are SBI PO, IBPS PO, RRB PO, etc. If your target is RBI Assistant, then for the time being you should focus more on Prelims Mocks, because the competition in RBI Assistant Prelims is extremely high and clearing that stage is the biggest hurdle.
For the next three months, you can follow a structured preparation approach for Mains:
1. Start your day with Current Affairs (1 hour daily).
Begin your day with current affairs preparation. This helps build consistency and ensures that General Awareness for Mains remains strong. If daily coverage becomes difficult, make sure you at least revise weekly current affairs regularly.
2. Attempt two Mains-level Sectional Mocks every day.
You can choose any exam-level sections such as SBI PO, IBPS PO, RRB PO, or Clerk Mains, since the syllabus remains largely the same; only the difficulty level varies.
For example:
One English sectional Mock
One Quantitative Aptitude sectional Mock
Spend sufficient time analyzing these tests thoroughly. Identify where you are losing marks, whether due to weak concepts, time management, or question selection.
3. Strengthen concepts through targeted practice and video learning.
After analysis, work specifically on the weak areas. For instance, if you find difficulty in Data Interpretation (DI), dedicate around 2 hours daily to practicing and learning DI concepts.
While watching lectures:
A. Pause the video when a question appears.
B. Attempt to solve it yourself first.
C. Then watch the solution and compare your approach.
This method helps you discover new techniques and improve conceptual clarity rather than becoming a passive learner.
4. Alternate subject focus for better balance.
You may also structure your practice like this:
Day 1: Quant + English
Day 2: Reasoning + English
English can be practiced daily since its analysis generally takes less time and helps maintain reading speed and comprehension.
5. Continue one Prelims Mock regularly.
Even while preparing for Mains, try to attempt one Prelims-level Mock test daily (preferably PO-level). This will help you maintain speed and accuracy for upcoming preliminary examinations.
6. Practice full-length Mains Mocks on alternate days (optional).
If you prefer full-length practice, you can attempt previous year Mains papers of any banking exam. You may skip the GA section initially and focus on Reasoning, Quant, and English. Attempt these on alternate days, so that the next or following day can be used entirely for detailed analysis.
Overall, the key is consistent Mock practice, detailed analysis, and continuous improvement in weak areas.
Since you are already clearing Prelims, you are definitely on the right track. With focused preparation for Mains, your chances of final selection will increase significantly.
