The future of AI should speak Ethiopian languages.

Today we are launching http://Dataset.ET/ — an open community initiative to build the largest dataset for Ethiopian languages.

Why this matters:
Most AI systems today barely understand Amharic, Afaan Oromo, Tigrinya, Somali, and many other Ethiopian languages. Without datasets, AI will ignore our languages.

http://Dataset.ET/ is changing that.

What we are building:
• Speech datasets
• Text datasets
• Community-validated language corpora
• Open infrastructure for Ethiopian AI

I have been working on this API.
This API provides Bible texts in Amharic, Afaan Oromo, and English. It is designed to help developers easily access Bible data and integrate it into apps, websites, or study tools.

The API allows developers to retrieve books, chapters, and verses in a simple JSON format. It also includes interactive documentation so developers can test endpoints and understand how to use it.

Currently, the Amharic dataset includes the New Testament, and more content will be added as the project grows.

Developers are free to use this API. More features will be added in the future. The project will also be open source, and I plan to make the GitHub repository public after finishing some improvements.

It’s been a while since I started working on this project. Every time I thought I was done, there was always something new to add or improve. I still think there’s a lot more I can build into it, but I finally feel like it’s ready to be deployed. Building my own workspace has always been on my to-do list a place where I can plan, organize, and do everything in one spot. That’s where the name MyDesk+ comes from. Feel free to try it out, and let me know if you find any bugs or have ideas for improvements
