ICEL 2026 Conference at WIUT: Advancing Innovation in Education and Linguistics
On 12–13 May 2026, Westminster International University in Tashkent hosted the 7th International Conference on Education and Linguistics (ICEL 2026), bringing together leading scholars, educators and researchers in the fields of language teaching, applied linguistics and educational technologies.
Held under the theme “Innovations in Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics for a Sustainable and Inclusive Future”, the conference served as an international platform for discussing the evolving role of language education in today’s rapidly changing world.
The hybrid event welcomed more than 200 participants from 23 countries, including the UK, USA and Canada, with over 100 research papers presented throughout the conference. Discussions focused on digital tools, artificial intelligence, hybrid learning, language policy, translation, sociolinguistics and inclusive educational practices.
ICEL 2026 created valuable opportunities for academic exchange, international collaboration and the development of innovative approaches aimed at building a more inclusive and sustainable future through education.

WIUT Week in London: Showcasing Ideas, Sport and Culture 🇬🇧✨
As part of WIUT Week in London, students and staff from Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT) participated in a series of meaningful events at the University of Westminster, strengthening academic, cultural, and institutional ties.
🌐 WIUT students represented Uzbekistan at the Democratic Education Network (DEN) International Student Conference in London. The conference brought together students and academics from around the world to exchange ideas on sustainable development, technology and the role of young people in addressing global challenges.
Winners of the “Our Sustainable Future Together” course at WIUT delivered two presentations: The Silk Road Never Ended - It Just Went Digital and When AI Thinks for Us: Teaching Youth to Question Technology. Their contribution reflected WIUT’s strong commitment to innovation, critical thinking and international engagement.
⚽️ WIUT Wolves also made their mark in a futsal match, securing an impressive 8:4 victory over the University of Westminster Dragons. It was a vibrant display of teamwork, determination and sporting spirit - showing once again how sport connects people and builds lasting bonds beyond the classroom.
During the visit, students also had the opportunity to explore the London Eye and Wembley Stadium, one of the world’s most iconic sporting venues.
🎬 The cultural programme included a special screening at Fyvie Hall of the documentary film "The Speaking History of Uzbek Silent Cinema". The event featured welcoming remarks from the Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Westminster, Professor Peter Bonfield, followed by the film’s director, Eljon Abbasov, and concept author, film historian Professor Nigora Karimova.
The documentary highlighted the rich history of Uzbek silent cinema and proudly recalled that the first film screening in Tashkent took place in 1897, just one year after the Lumière brothers’ historic screening in London. The audience warmly received the screening, and the authors also presented Professor Bonfield with their book, "Cinema Art of Uzbekistan".
WIUT is proud of its students and staff for representing the University with excellence, confidence and pride on an international stage!

Memorandum of Cooperation signed between WIUT and the Association of Designers of the Republic of Uzbekistan «Osiyo Ramzi»
A Memorandum of Cooperation has been signed between Westminster International University in Tashkent and the Association of Designers of the Republic of Uzbekistan «Osiyo Ramzi». The Memorandum is aimed at strengthening collaboration through joint initiatives to support student creativity, foster innovation and contribute to the development of the creative economy.
Within the framework of the cooperation, the parties intend to organise joint projects and events in the field of art, including fashion shows, exhibitions and other creative initiatives. The partnership also envisages academic cooperation in support of WIUT’s https://wiut.uz/creative-industries-management creating valuable opportunities for professional engagement, practical learning and industry exposure.

WIUT Commercial Law Students Excel at the Oxford International Intellectual Property Law Moot ⚖️
Westminster International University in Tashkent is proud to highlight the outstanding participation of the https://www.wiut.uz/commercial-law students in the Oxford International Intellectual Property Law Moot, one of the world’s most prestigious competitions in IP law, held from 24 to 28 March at the University of Oxford.
Competing among just https://www.law.ox.ac.uk/Oxford-IP-Moot from leading law schools worldwide, WIUT made history as the first team from Uzbekistan and Central Asia to reach this stage of the competition.
The team, consisting of Madinabonu Jumaniyozova, Ulugmurod Dustmurodov and Khushruya Abdullaeva, coached by Mamurakhon Turgunboeva, demonstrated exceptional advocacy, analytical ability and professionalism throughout the moot. In recognition of their outstanding performance, they were awarded the Professor David Vaver Spirit of the Moot Award, which recognises excellence in teamwork, integrity and commitment. 🏆

Upcycling Workshop: Bridging Strategy and Sustainable Design 👗
On 26 March, the https://www.wiut.uz/creative-industries-management at WIUT partnered with AICP (Académie Internationale de Coupe de Paris) Tashkent for an intensive Upcycling Workshop.
Expert AICP lecturers delivered a hands-on masterclass for 15 selected students, sharing expertise in sustainable fashion and technical design. Participants explored upcycling - transforming surplus textiles and pre-owned garments into fashion prototypes, while applying management frameworks aligned with SDG 12.
The workshop also created a platform for postgraduate and undergraduate students to exchange ideas, build connections, and gain industry insights, highlighting the growing potential of Uzbekistan’s creative economy.

Navruz was celebrated with great festivity at the Student Residence of Westminster International University in Tashkent.

Today, WIUT came alive with the spirit of Navruz, a celebration of unity and cherished traditions.
From the Uzbek Culture Fair, which showcased national heritage and traditional flavours, to the dances and live performances that brought energy across the campus, the atmosphere was truly memorable. Students and staff enjoyed national songs, cultural displays, and lively performances that reflected the richness and diversity of Uzbek traditions.
A special highlight of the day was the preparation of sumalak, which was carefully cooked and shared with students and staff, creating a true sense of tradition and togetherness. The celebration also featured a tree-planting initiative, symbolising growth, renewal, and a shared commitment to the future.
Alongside this, sports games and interactive activities brought everyone together in a spirit of joy and friendly competition.
