The Public Chamber of the Russian Federation accused Telegram of violating financial legislation
Evgeny Masharov, a member of the Public Chamber commission, https://tass.ru/obschestvo/27009957 to TASS that the messenger violates not only laws on information security and personal data protection, but also securities market legislation.
Main complaints against Telegram:
• Lack of licenses from Russian financial regulators.
• Violation of the Federal Law "On the Securities Market".
• Non-compliance with legislation on combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism.
According to the official, the Telegram platform does not have licenses to provide users with the following capabilities:
• Buying stocks and currencies through a crypto wallet.
• Replenishing the wallet with fiat currencies and cryptocurrencies.
• Financial services on par with online casinos and sports betting.
The expert warned that such services create a "window of opportunity" for the legalization of funds stolen by fraudsters, as well as for financing terrorism and encroaching on the constitutional order.
Accusations of violating financial legislation are yet another lever of pressure on the messenger. Previously, authorities blocked VPN services in the App Store, and deputies have not ruled out recognizing Telegram as an extremist organization.
