The future of AI should speak Ethiopian languages.

Today we are launching http://Dataset.ET/ — an open community initiative to build the largest dataset for Ethiopian languages.

Why this matters:
Most AI systems today barely understand Amharic, Afaan Oromo, Tigrinya, Somali, and many other Ethiopian languages. Without datasets, AI will ignore our languages.

http://Dataset.ET/ is changing that.

What we are building:
• Speech datasets
• Text datasets
• Community-validated language corpora
• Open infrastructure for Ethiopian AI

Codex keeps surprising me.

I thought my Vercel deploy was failing because of something on my side, but it turned out there was an outage in their Dubai region. Codex pointed that out early, and it ended up being exactly the issue.

Qwen 3.5 is pretty impressive for Amharic. Probably the best open model out there with good coverage.

In school, we learnt the "correct" way of dong things, how we should implement our specs using architectures and patterns. But in game dev, the "spec" is an emotion: Is it fun? Does it feel right? To answer that, you have to build for the user's desire first, often at the expense of the code's purity.

In this talk we'll take a look at his journey, learning extremely useful insights and lessons about game dev as well as what creating a game studio thought him about the truth of game dev and user satisfaction as a whole.
