US President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in a large coordinated airstrike between the US and Israel (February 28, 2026).
Trump called Mr. Khamenei "one of the most evil people in history", asserting that bombs will continue to hit Iran for a week (or longer) to achieve "peace in the Middle East and the world", and called on the Iranians to seize the opportunity to overthrow the regime.
Iran initially denied it, but Iranian state media later confirmed the death of Khamenei (along with many other high-ranking officials, about 40 people), declaring 40 days of national mourning and a week of holidays. There have been no public photos/videos of Mr. Khamenei since the attack began.
The event shocked the Middle East, some areas of Tehran had people cheering. Meanwhile, Bitcoin recovered strongly, surpassing $68K 📈.
