Meta has started testing the short-video feature 'Reels' on Quest headset. Meta Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg made the announcement on Meta's broadcast channel on Friday, "We're testing Reels on Quest." He also shared a video revealing how a Reel will look in virtual reality (VR). Last week, Zuckerberg had introduced the next generation virtual and mixed reality headset 'Quest 3' which will be launched later this year.  It features a next-generation Snapdragon chipset which delivers more than twice the graphical performance as the previous generation Snapdragon GPU in Quest 2. "On Quest 3, our best-in-class Meta Reality technology lets you seamlessly blend your physical world with the virtual one," the company said. The 128GB headset starts at $499.99 and users will also get an additional storage option for extra space. Last week, Zuckerberg had introduced the next generation virtual and mixed reality headset 'Quest 3' which will be launched later this year.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has filed a case against Binance, the largest global cryptocurrency exchange.

According to the SEC, Binance has been accused of intermingling customer funds amounting to billions of dollars and covertly transferring them to a distinct company, Merit Peak Limited. This company is reportedly under the control of Binance’s founder, Changpeng Zhao, who is widely known in the cryptocurrency world as “C. Z.”

The charges also implicate the firm is misleading investors about its ability to manage manipulative trading and insufficiently restricting U. S. investors' access to its unregulated exchange.

Apple’s new headset could put a rocket under metaverse tokens

Apple is scheduled to release its highly-anticipated mixed-reality headset in the coming weeks, a development that some believe could breathe fresh life into the metaverse industry. This trend was pointed out in a May 15 tweet from independent developer Udi Wertheimer, who in a backhanded comment to the absurdity of influencer-driven memecoins, spoke of the upcoming release as a potential driver of metaverse token prices.

Decentraland is still in the process of building out its VR capabilities and The Sandbox previously told Cointelegraph it has “no immediate or future plans” to build out VR. Speaking to this point, Gilbert, like many others notes that a fully immersive metaverse experience is probably still a “long way off” especially when looking at the gap between the initial launch of the iPhone and the availability of apps.

Shaquille O’Neal, the basketball legend turned TV analyst, is now embroiled in two separate lawsuits related to the cryptocurrency sector on Tuesday, May 23, during a live NBA broadcast.

O’Neal was handed legal documents concerning his association with the now-defunct cryptocurrency exchange FTX and his NFT initiative, Astrals, at Miami’s Kaseya Arena. Notably, the venue was previously known as FTX Arena.

The first lawsuit involves O’Neal who endorsed FTX. The plaintiffs accuse the defendants of promoting a financial platform that later fell into bankruptcy.

The second lawsuit focuses on O’Neal’s involvement in Astrals, an NFT project launched in 2022. The plaintiffs assert that the Astrals NFTs were unregistered securities, with the value of the tokens tied closely to O’Neal. The suit alleges that the project misled investors and that O’Neal, along with his son Myles and business partner Brian Bayati, violated securities laws.

The NFTs are built around artwork that focuses on the concept of mindfulness, plus the asset will provide access to mental health resources, the company says. Alo will also offer further NFT collection opportunities through email for customers. Alo’s in-store effort was created using MoonPay’s NFT minting platform, with the collectibles minted on Ethereum scaling network Polygon. The apparel retailer is covering all minting fees tied to the promotion as part of an effort.
