*ahem* so umm...turns out that it was NOT Google messing around with the sources. However, their AOSP Source repo website a.k.a Google's Git, was constantly failing with HTTP 500-502-503 error codes, Causing AOSP Tracker Bot to glitch and spam multiple times.
However, the tracker bot developer https://t.me/aosptracker. Now we shouldn't get spammed anymore, but who knows what is Google planning to do in the near future though...

Thereβs something important happening in the Android and open-source ecosystem that more people should be aware of.
A group of developers, organizations, and community members have come together under an initiative called Keep Android Open.
The main goal of this initiative is to protect the openness of Android; especially around custom ROMs, third-party app distribution, and the broader open-source ecosystem. Over time, weβve seen increasing restrictions, tighter controls, and policy changes that can make life harder for independent developers and FOSS projects.
Android was built on open-source foundations. A big part of what made it powerful was the freedom to modify, distribute, and build upon it. Custom ROMs, alternative app stores, independent developers, all of this exists because Android was open.
But recently, there have been growing concerns about:
- Restrictions affecting third-party app distribution
- Increasing dependency on proprietary services
- Limitations that could impact custom ROM and modding communities
- Policies that may make independent development harder
Keep Android Open is essentially a call to preserve user choice, developer freedom, and fair access within the Android ecosystem.
Now, my personal opinion:
If you care about FOSS, privacy, custom ROMs, or even just having options beyond a single controlled ecosystem, this is something worth paying attention to. Even if youβre not directly affected today, these kinds of shifts shape the future of the platforms we all use.
Iβm not saying panic. Iβm saying stay informed.
As always, please read everything yourself and form your own opinion. Donβt rely only on summaries, including mine.

What is Google doing? π€
Google seems to be refreshing AOSP Sources from.....scratch (?). Suddenly, new tags and branches were (re)created in the Google's git website ( http://android.googlesource.com/) in a very quick rate, based on https://t.me/aosptracker, where there was a flood of notifications/changes in a small period of time. Even changes were spotted for old android versions including Android 2 and Android 3! π
And more than that, if you try to access their website, it can throw an HTTP 502-503 error at you randomly β¨οΈ
Let's see how things will go I guess. π
