When to Sit Tight in Trading
A step‑by‑step experience

1️⃣ I see my setup
I’ve done the work.
The level is clean, the context makes sense, risk is defined.
I enter. Now the real game starts: can I sit?

2️⃣ Price pulls back against me
My brain screams: “Close it. Take the small loss. Get out.”
I check my plan:
- Is my stop hit? No.
- Is my edge broken? No.
So I breathe—and do nothing.

3️⃣ I scan for other trades
Nothing meets my criteria.
I feel the itch to “do something” anyway.
I remind myself:
If there’s no high‑probability setup, forcing a trade is just gambling with a chart open.
I stay flat. I wait.

4️⃣ Market turns hostile
Spreads widen, wicks everywhere, news spikes hit the tape.
Old me would jump in “before it runs without me.”
Now I label it: hostile conditions.
My job is not to be a hero—my job is to survive.
I step back.

5️⃣ My open trade starts working
Price moves in my favor.
I feel the urge to:
- Take quick profits “before it reverses”
- Move stops randomly
- Stare at every tick
Instead, I zoom out:
Is the trend intact? Yes.
Is my target logical? Yes.
So I let it breathe. No micromanaging.

6️⃣ The payoff
Because I sat tight:
- I avoided low‑quality, FOMO trades
- I let a good trade turn into a meaningful winner
- I protected my capital and my psychology

7️⃣ Takeaway
In real time, “sitting tight” feels like doing nothing.
In your equity curve, it shows up as:
- Fewer stupid losses
- Bigger, cleaner winners

Patience > impulsiveness.
Most traders lose not because they don’t know what to do—
but because they can’t stand the feeling of waiting.
