Good morning!

Welcome to the Budget day trading!

Looking at the options premium, I feel that the traders are underestimating the power of an event like budget. May be due to recency bias where last 3 budgets didn't give much movement. But that's primarily due to the fact that the 2 budgets in 2024 were interim budgets in the election year.

There can be many factor that can move the market but I'm primarily looking for any change in the capital gain tax and STT. Any increase in any of these taxes can trigger good sell offs (in my opinion) In case if STT is reduced or removed, it can be positive but I'm not expecting a massive move or anything. The one thing that can bring a blockbuster rally can be the removal of LTCGT on stock market earnings (It's very unlikely to remove that completely though). A significant reduction in LTCGT also can be treated as positive.

All these are my view just on market related facts alone. There can be multiple other factors that can impact the market too which is difficult to predict and may be sometimes difficult to understand during the budget time too. Let's see how it goes and I'll put my best effort to understand and post my view here.

One thing I won't do today is option selling, at least until the budget is over. 400rs straddle premium is too low considering the event. It can be non-event and the option sellers can make good money also, but there is a small probabiltiy that market can give big move which can be disastrous for option sellers. I don't want to hold a bomb for pennies
