Do an experiment:

Next time you learn new knowledge, remember it. Not because it will make you smarter, but because you might soon get tested with it.

Succeeding in this test means you are ready to learn more.

Falling short means you need to revisit the same lesson.

Because often, knowledge doesn't leave us - we leave it.

And until it becomes part of who we are, it tends to return in different forms.

How to practice "book scrolling" instead of doom scrolling:

1. Sit down with 3 different books (or reading materials).

2. Start with one.

3. Read until your energy or focus starts to fade.

4. Then switch to a completely new book -new genre, new subject, new author.

The cheap-dopamine-seeking brain doesn't disappear. It slowly learns to stay focused longer.

Eventually, putting down your phone gets easier, and putting down a book gets harder.

righteous like Maryam
wise like Khadija
sharp like Aisha
charitable like Zainab
resourceful like Umm Salama
trustworthy like Hafsa
steadfast like Sumayya
strategic like Asma
closest in character to the Prophet sollallohu alayhi wasallam like Fatimah

May Allah be pleased with them all.

Is hardship the greatest teacher?
It is, but it's not the only one.

We learn through happiness just as much as through hardship.

Life doesn't have to resemble hell to shape you.
No need to taste grief to appreciate a gift.
No need to experience a lie to value loyalty.
No need to survive a failure to understand faith.

Some of life's most formative lessons come through what's good:

- a loving home teaches gratitude and trust
- marriage teaches patience and mercy
- friendship teaches loyalty and presence
- parenthood teaches responsibility and sacrifice
- success teaches discipline and diligence

So, don't wait for hardship to feel like you're growing. And don't measure your worth by the weight of your tests.

What matters is staying on the right path in both ease and difficulty.

#teaching is easy, but achieving real learning isn't. Getting learners into the habit of questioning, thinking, and communicating - that's the art only great teachers can master.

So here are 15 ways to be a good teacher:

Get to know your students! Make it personal. Connect the curriculum to their lives.
Practice, don't preach. Show and model. You reading a book during a break teaches “reading” more than any lesson.
Share yourself. Teaching is personal. If you don’t share some of your life, they won’t. Care and show you care.
Make students think! Get them learning things beyond the language.
Give students responsibility. Good teachers have students doing most of the prep and work.
Provide structure. Students need to know what you will do during each part of the lesson. Systems matter.
Use hooks! Engage students at the beginning of lessons. Great teachers teach inductively - from whole to parts.
Use the whole classroom. It is your space. Get students out of their seats, using the space and the board.
Have one-on-one moments. Make time for individual conversations - they matter more than you think.
Use student names as much as possible. Names light up the brain and foster learning.
Teaching is acting. Don’t just be yourself -be whoever it takes to get students motivated and learning.
Look for teachable moments. Connect the content to reality at every opportunity.
Teach students, not the subject! Learn about differentiation and treat each student as special. Study how special educators approach learning.
Have style. Each teacher must find their own “way” and “manner.” It takes time, but discover and nurture it.
Have a philosophy. You need a “why” to bear the inevitable “how” of a classroom. Read books, talk to others, write in a journal. Great teachers are reflective about their work.

security.

We keep trying to solve them one by one.

But the real deficiency is one:

Where there's a lack of Islam,
everything else remains insufficient, no matter how much you have.

Every person who takes on a job serves others.
But a Muslim who works serves both the creation and the Creator.

A teacher teaches and connects every lesson to Allah.

A doctor treats and reminds his patients to trust Allah.

An architect designs and reflects the majesty of Allah.

A writer writes and directs people to the path of Allah.

So when a Muslim writes about Him, it's not a display of piety, but a duty to remind.

The archers of today

Anyone familiar with the Seerah remembers the archers of Uhud. The Prophet sollallohu alayhi wasallam stationed them on top of a hill and gave them one command: do not leave your position under any circumstances.

But they left the hill too early, which led to loss of lives, injuries, and great harm.

Sometimes, we too abandon our "hills" to early.

They can take many forms:

a father leaving his family to pursue a better life,
a scholar leaving his community to pursue comfort,
a mother leaving her children to pursue a career

The hills look different today, but the lesson of Uhud remains the same:

some positions are not meant to be abandoned too early, if at all.

Wasting time is worse than death, because wasting time cuts you off from Allah and the Hereafter, while death only cuts you off from this world and its people.

Wasting time doesn't only mean idleness or sinful activity. Time can also be wasted through things that look productive on the surface.

Seeking knowledge - the most beneficial pursuit in life - is one such thing.

Knowledge is truly beneficial when it:

- increases our awe of Allah
- softens the heart
- humbles the ego
- deepens our understanding (fahm-farosat)
- brings sincerity into our actions
- makes us more careful with our words and deeds
- moves us to serve and benefit others

Knowledge becomes a waste of time when it:

- hardens the heart
- inflates the ego
- creates a sense of entitlement or superiority
- turns learning into a competition for recognition
- fills the mind but leaves the character unchanged
- distances us from remembrance of Allah

When choosing a friend, befriend the one who is above you in religion and below you in the worldly life.

When choosing a spouse, marry the one who is above you in religion and equal to you in the worldly life.

When choosing a teacher, learn from the one who is above you both in religion and knowledge.

When choosing a student, teach the one who is sincere in intention and hungry for knowledge.

When choosing a living role model, follow the one whose example reminds you of the the best man who ever walked beneath the sun, sollallohu alayhi wasallam.

For those who aspire to master the craft of teaching, learn:

- how to explain a concept clearly
- how to check whether students understood what you just said
- how to anticipate misconceptions before they surface as error patterns
- how to model a skill for a student to be able to replicate it
- how to give feedback at the moment it is most useful.

There're 3 ways to learn this:

You can choose to take the usual path, like I once did, and pursue a formal university education, which often proves far less practical than expected.

You can jump straight into the classroom, spend a year or two unintentionally turning your students into experiment subjects while you learn from your mistakes.

Or you can find a mentor whose years of classroom experience can give you the guidance that is difficult to gain either at university or through trial and error.

Because in teaching, borrowing someone else's years is the fastest way to grow.

Would you rather receive a gift now only to lose it later or eceive it later when you're ready to cherish it, grow it, and multiply it?

Often, gifts we long for (an offspring, a life partner, study or work opportunity, wealth, or fame) aren't denied, but delayed.

Maybe because of wrong timing.
Maybe we aren't yet the person who can carry the gift.

So, instead of venting, we persevere.
Instead of trying to force our destiny, we fix ourselves.
Instead of letting doubts cloud our faith, we turn to dua.

And when the gift finally arrives, it comes with something greater:

the wisdom to sustain it,
the gratitude to value it,
the skills to multiply it.

Some gifts are late because they are meant to last.

Part 1 (Parents' edition)

- read aloud every day (stories, poems, songs)
- become a reader
- tell stories (personal memories, imaginative tales, prophets' biographies, family stories)
- encourage narrating what happened in a book, a movie, or an event
- have real conversations about nature, feelings, people, history, ideas
- use rich vocabulary in everyday conversations
- take time to explain things that interest a child (how machines/nature/social events work)
- spend time outdoors regularly
- visit educational spaces (libraries, museums, galleries, markets, farms)
- let them interact with people of different ages, professions, and backgrounds

When your surroundings fall short in their religious obligations...
When your children persist in disobedience...
When your loved ones can't let go of their addictions...

Your natural reaction is: I've got to fix this!

But what if, despite your persistence and sincerity, nothing changes?

From my experience, repeated failure to change others is often a sign that Allah is asking you to change yourself first.

Because the one busy fixing themselves has little time left to fix everyone else.

And strangely enough, sincere self-reform usually becomes the very thing that changes people around you.

One of the great powers of Islam lies in its universality. It resonates with people cross-culturally, transcontinentally, across civilizations and beyond borders. It feels like home to two people who live miles apart.

Not only that: it brings out something deeply indigenous in its followers. Their sense of identity as Muslims strengthens their sense of who they already are.

With Islam,
a Pakistani feels more Pakistani
a German feels more German
and an Uzbek feels more Uzbek.

Islam unites hearts without erasing roots. Different lands, different languages, different histories - all with one qiblah, one Book, and one Lord.

You pray for peace.
For stability.
For a home that is warm, safe, and calm.
For waking up and knowing no one is going to leave.
For a love that doesn't punish, torment, or sting.

You pray to cleanse your bloodline of its stains.
To pass on only good and grace.
To lift spirits while quietly healing your own.
To walk this path with a sound heart that submits to Him alone.

As you pray for what feels most real, wealth, luxury, and recognition become a gift, not a goal.

Your people

A minute with them is worth a lifetime.
A single conversation nourishes your soul for a year.

With them, love doesn't always need words - the eyes do all the talking.

Their presence feels like the greatest gift.
Their absence feels like the greatest trial.

And perhaps that's why Allah never lets the gift stay forever.
It comes and goes in intervals.

Sometimes He gives you their company - and your heart blooms.
Other times He tests you with their absence. Heavy. Agonizing.
Leaving you like soil desperate for water.

Your people are always a blessing in this life.
And the pain of separation from them may, in sha Allah, be a sign that Allah intends to unite you with them forever in the akhirah.

This is how we can grow closer to Allah the Almighty and make shaytan regret ever being released from his chains.

As Ali ibn Abi Talib (ra) beautifully said:
“Every day in which a Muslim does not sin is a day of Eid.”
