In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
📩 The Question:
How do I become having good expectations of Allah?
📝 The Answer:
Firstly: the meaning of improving good expectations of Allah: that your hope becomes great and that the trust in your heart in Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, becomes great:
In the aspect of obedience: you obey Him and you hope for His reward, so you cause trust to prevail in your heart and hope becomes great in the heart that Allah accepts your obedience.
And in the aspect of supplication: good expectations are good and hope becomes great in the heart and trust becomes great that Allah responds to your supplication.
And in the chapter of sins: if you fall into them, you seek forgiveness from Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, and you repent, and your expectations and your hope in Allah become great that He will not disappoint your repentance and that He will not disappoint your supplication.
And in the aspect of provision: your hope becomes great and the trust in your heart becomes great that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will provide for you.
And in the aspect of calamities: your hope becomes great in the heart and trust becomes great in the heart that Allah will grant relief.
“So verily, with the hardship, there is relief. Verily, with the hardship, there is relief.” (Qur’an 94:5–6)
This all is from having good expectations of Allah.
And from what causes that: reflecting upon the Most Beautiful Names, I mean: remembering the Most Beautiful Names that are connected to your request and connected to what you want. In the aspect of provision, remember that Allah, from His Names, is: Al-Karīm (The Most Generous), Ar-Razzāq (The Provider), Al-Mannān (The Bestower of Favors), Al-Wahhāb (The Bestower of Gifts), Al-Akram (The Most Generous), Dhul-Jalāli wal-Ikrām (The Possessor of Majesty and Honor).
In the aspect of repentance and seeking forgiveness: remember that from the Names of Allah are: Ar-Raḥmān (The Most Merciful), Ar-Raḥīm (The Especially Merciful), Al-Ghafūr (The Oft-Forgiving), and likewise also: At-Tawwāb (The Accepter of Repentance), Ghāfir adh-Dhanb (The Forgiver of sin), and what resembles that from the Names connected to this request.
And likewise in every aspect, remember the Most Beautiful Names connected to it, for the Most Beautiful Names—its affair is tremendous when a person reflects upon it.
And also, upon you is supplication that Allah places in your heart having good expectations of Allah, so ask Allah that He places in your heart certainty, for it was from the supplication of the Prophet ﷺ:
" اللَّهُمَّ اقْسِمْ لَنَا مِنْ خَشْيَتِكَ مَا يَحُولُ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ مَعَاصِيكَ، وَمِنْ طَاعَتِكَ مَا تُبَلِّغُنَا بِهِ جَنَّتَكَ، وَمِنَ الْيَقِينِ مَا تُهَوِّنُ بِهِ عَلَيْنَا مُصِيبَاتِ الدُّنْيَا".
“O Allah, apportion for us from Your fear that which comes between us and between disobediences to You, and from Your obedience that by which You make us reach Your Paradise, and from certainty that by which You make easy upon us the calamities of the world.”
And ask Allah also that He makes you from those whose hope becomes great and from those who have good expectations of Allah, for indeed this is the greatest cause for every good.
So increase supplication that Allah provides you having good expectations of Him, and you seek refuge with Allah from having bad expectations of Him, and Allah is the One Whose help is sought.
