The New Testament Influences on Moses Hess

The mentor of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, the real founder of communism, who's often called the communist rabbi and the chief ideologue of zionism, was profoundly influenced by literal interpretations of the New Testament, particularly the sermon on the mount. An antique biography of Moses Hess admits this fact:

»Moses Hess's veneration of Christ crushes all boundaries. Of course, his Christ is not the Christ of Christians. Under his sign, the world would not have been drenched in blood for centuries. His Christ took the cross for humanity; but the "Christian" Christ burdened others with it. He died for humanity. Christians brought death upon unbelieving humanity. They were no longer bearers of passive fantasy, but of a more comfortable, active imagination that could not be exhausted by inventing ever new instruments of torture. It is easy to see where Hess got his dithyrambic love of Christ. The great Romantic soul-catcher, whose soft, flattering words lulled the weary resignation of educated German Jewry and drew all vigorous striving into a dreamily blissful Christianity, Schleiermacher, had also lured the young Hess into his sweet mysticism. If Hess had come to Christianity in those years, it would not have been a step taken out of luxury and hubris But before this final step, his master Spinoza saved him. Also a man of Jewish blood Forward-moving in his spirit, he recognized the temporal conditionality of Christ's teachings. And just as Christ was for him only the symbol of the struggle for the kingdom of the spirit, so Spinoza brought him the overcoming of Christianity. In Hegelian dialectics, Judaism appears to him as the masculine, Christianity as the feminine world principle. Through Spinoza, unity in spirit has been achieved: the duality of the lower and higher nature of man, of imagination and intellect, is forever overcome.«

The Christian Origins of Marxism:

The League of the Just was a Christian communist international revolutionary organization founded in 1836. In 1847, the LoJ met in London and eventually sent a representative to Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, convincing them to join the organization.

The two were tasked with writing the Communist Manifesto. The group quickly adopted it, and changed its name to "[The] Communist League", thus becoming the first Marxist political party.

The stated goal of the League was "the establishment of the Kingdom of God on Earth, based on the ideals of love of one's neighbour, equality and justice." Their motto was "All men are brothers". Wilhelm Weitling was one of the most prominent leaders in the LoJ.

He proclaimed himself as a "social Luther", denounced private property and advocated for violent revolution. He later wrote "The Poor Sinner's Gospel", a commentary on the New Testament in which he traces communism back to early Christianity.
