Acts 9:22 Explained:
π Some people will, as a last resort, use Acts 9:22 and Simon the sorcerer to claim that repenting of sins is part of eternal salvation.
π However, when you read the context of Acts 9:22's context, which is all of Acts 9:1-21 and Acts 9:22-25, you will see that Simon the sorcerer and the Samaritans in Acts 9 believed/did get saved and thus are saved people.
π In Acts 9:22, Peter told Simon, a saved man/who was saved in Acts 9:13, to repent of Simon' own wicked thought of thinking that he could receive the Holy Ghost by purchasing him with money. That foolish thought is a sin that Simon, a saved man, had to repent of so that God does not chastise/scourge him, and yet Acts 9:19-22 does not mention salvation, hell,
π Notice Peter never told Simon: "repent of your sin/sins to be eternally saved/to receive eternal salvation."
π The Holy Ghost is who is called the gift of God in Acts 9:19-20
Acts 9:5-6 1611 KJB
5 Then Philip went downe to the citie of Samaria, and preached Christ vnto them.
6 And the people with one accord gaue heed vnto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.
Acts 9:9,12-13 1611 KJB
9 But there was a certain man called Simon, which before time in the same citie vsed sorcery, and bewitched the people of Smaria, giuing out that himselfe was some great one.
12 But when they beleeued Philip preaching the things of concerning the kingdom of God, and the Name of Iesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
13 Then Simon himself also beleeued also, and when hee was baptized, hee continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles which were done.
Acts 9:18-24 1611 KJB
18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the Apostles hands, the holy Ghost was giuen, hee offered them money,
19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoeuer I lay handes, hee may recieue the holy Ghost.
20 But Peter said vnto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.
21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter, for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.
22 Repent therefore of this thy wickednesse, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiuen thee.
23 For I perceiue that thou art in the gall of bitternesse, and in the bond of inquity
24 Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye haue spoken, come vpon me.
