عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم:

من لم يدع قول الزور والعمل به فليس لله حاجة في ان يدع طعامه وشرابه.

Imām Abī Hurayrah said that RasūlAllāh ﷺ said:

Whoever does not leave false speech and working with it,

So Allāh has no need of that he leaves his food and drink.

Imām Ibn ‘Umar said:

It was said than indeed there is an accepted supplication for a believer in the time of his Iftār,

Either it will be hastened for him in his Dunyā,

Or will be saved for him in his hereafter.

The narrator says:

Ibn ‘Umar used to say in the time of his Iftār:

يا واسع المغفرة اغفر لي.

Yā Wāsi’ al-Maghfirah ighfir Lī

O the One who is Great in forgiveness, forgive me.

Two Imāms al-Musayyib Bin Rāfi’ and Khaythamah Bin ‘AbdurRahmān said:

It was said that whoever fasts the Ramadhān and then dies after in that year,

Enters Jannah.

While people are busy with dinner, let’s remember Allāh.

Imām Ibn ‘Umar said:

Whoever has a habit of praying 4 Rak’ahs after Maghrib, is like someone who goes to Ghazwah (i.e Jihād) after Ghazwah.

Imām Ibn ‘Umar used to wet a piece of clothes and put it on himself while he was fasting. (to cool himself down)

And Imām ash-Sha’bī went to bath while he was fasting.

And Imām Hassan al-Basrī said:

There is no problem in rinsing the mouth with water and cooling oneself down while fasting.

And Imām Anas Bin Mālik said:

I have a pond and I go inside it and I’m fasting.

Imām ash-Shāfi’ī narrates with his chain from Imām Ibn ‘Abbās that he said:

RasūlAllāh ﷺ was the most generous people in giving charity,

and he was the most generous in the month of Ramadhān,

And Jibrīl peace be upon him used to meet him ﷺ every night in Ramadhān and presented (reviewing) the Qur’ān to him ﷺ,

So whenever he (the prophet ﷺ) met him (Jibrīl) he (the prophet ﷺ) would be more generous than a wind that is sent.

Imām ash-Shāfi’ī says:

I love extra generosity for a man in the month of Ramadhān,

As a following for RasūlAllāh ﷺ and for the needs of people,

And because of the people being busy with fasting and praying from their businesses.

عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه، قال النبي ﷺ من صام رمضان إيماناً واحتساباً، غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه، ومن قام ليلة القدر إيماناً واحتساباً، غفر له ماتقدم من ذنبه.

Imām Abī Hurayrah narrates from The Prophet ﷺ that he said:

Whoever fasts Ramadhān with Īmān (faith) and Ihtisāb (expecting reward) his past sin(s) will be forgiven for him,

And whoever stands [in prayer] in the night of Qadr with Īmān (faith) and Ihtisāb (expecting reward) his past sin(s) will be forgiven for him.

قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم:

إن الله فرض صيام رمضان وسننت لكم قيامه.

The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said:

Indeed Allāh made the fasting of Ramadhān obligatory and I made it’s standing [in prayer,I.e Tarāwīh] Sunnah for you.

From Ḥafṣah bint Sīrīn, from Abū al-ʿĀliyah, who said:

“The fasting person remains in worship so long as he does not backbite anyone — even if he is lying asleep on his bed.”

Ḥafṣah used to say:

“How wonderful is a worship in which I am lying asleep on my bed!”

And Ḥafṣah also said:

“Fasting is a shield so long as its owner does not tear it — and tearing it is backbiting.”

📖 Muṣannaf ʿAbd al-Razzāq

The author of al-Ḥilyah narrated from Yaḥyā ibn Abī Kathīr, who said:

“A man fasts from lawful, wholesome food — yet breaks his fast upon unlawful, filthy flesh: the flesh of his brother!”

— meaning: by backbiting him.
