They say that the Old Wind’s lips are chained. That modern winds are youth hanging around. Meanwhile the Old One blows in the gaps between his lips at times and that’s where storms come from. If his lips were to be unchained and he were to blow with the whole mouth he’d blow away everything there is in the world, he’d flatten mountains and valleys, that would be the end of the world…Thus, they say, his lips will get unchained after all.

I don’t think the folkloric Old Wind and God of Wind Stribog are the same being. We can assume that some traits of the latter were inherited by the former (as well as one christian saint) after centuries of christianization (which wasn’t a one and done thing, but rather a slow process). If Stribog were indeed considered to be a being so destructive he’d destroy the world I really doubt there would be an idol of String built in Kyiv, standing on the same hill as those of Perun, Dazbog, Khors and other major deities. Also a chained monstrous being would be pointless to worship to begin with.

I also think some exaggerate the link between Stribog and winds. While we can’t know for sure, to me Stribog seems like more of a God of War who controls the destructive power of the wind spirits. There’s also the King of Fury in Belarusian spells in the folklore mentioned here before who is somewhat similar to Stribog since he too lives on an island in the middle of the ocean and has chained destructive spirits under his control.

Seems like my Elagabalus post is filtering normies while the ones on Dugin and Evola are cleansing the channel from stupid kids who don’t get that calling something Traditionalism and being traditional are not the same thing. It’s a shame Paganism has been overrun with tourists who just redefined the term to fit their universalist, scientistic and fundamentally atheistic perspective. Being outside of both mainline left and right means the channel probably won’t grow any more though we were close to 10K before. Also having principles is expensive and I’ve called out a few gatekeepers, grifters and plain morons pushing atheo-pagan trends.

Divine Profile - Bil

Bil, according to Snorri, is an Ásynjur (Æsir Goddess) who was taken with her brother Hjúki to follow Mani. Some suggest their story morphed into the Jack & Jill nursery rhyme. There are theories around her that should be addressed:

1. Germanic folklore talks about the 'Bilwis' associated with crops & the 'elfshot.' These show that, apart from the letters b.i.l. in the name, their qualities don't align.
2. Many translate the name Bil into the word 'instant' possibly associating her with time & the phases of the moon. The theory though doesn’t account for the earlier sentence stating Mani himself controls the phases of the moon before taking Bil into his service.
3. Few suggest Bil is the morning star, the planet Venus, which sometimes appears behind & following the moon. It's difficult to say apart from speculation if this is true. The "as may be seen from the earth" quote leads many to suggest a celestial body. But Venus doesn't always appear "following the moon" so it's inconclusive.

Speaking of Romans and globalism I hope some of my foreign friends help rid their language from Roman month names. After all, it’s odd using Roman emperors like Augustus and Julius as well as Roman deities like Juno and Janus if you are not Roman. Slavic Paganism has no such issue (except for Russians), but I bet there are some alternatives to borrowing from an alien tradition.

Ukrainian, Polish (mostly), Belarusian, Croatian and Czech names of the months are of Pagan origin and linked to Nature. I’ll use Ukrainian. December (Hruden) from the frozen lumps of earth (hrudky). January (Sichen) from the verb to cut. February (Liutyi) means the fierce one. March (Berezen) from the sprouting of the birch tree (bereza). April (Kviten) from the first flowers (kvity). May (Traven) from the grass (trava). June (Cherven) from larva (cherviak) common at this time of year or from red (chervony) due to first berries. July (Lypen) from the blossoming of the linden tree (lypa). August (Serpen) from the sickle (serp) used in harvest. September (Veresen) from fern (veres). October (Zhovten) from the yellowing of trees (zhovtinnia). November (Lystopad) from the fall of leaves (lystia).

There are also alternative names given to Ukrainian months. January (Prosynets) from nature waking up from sleep (prosynannia) as the days grow longer. February (Snizhen) means the snowy one. June (Izok) after grasshopper (green bush-cricket). August (Zarev) from the rutting of deer and the start of hunting season. December (Studen) from to cool (stydyty).

Romans adopted Greek narrative traditions…taking over Greek myths and heroic legends and making them their own. Their assimilation of Greek traditional prehistory was possible in part because native Roman traditions focused upon human events in Italy itself, so that there was little competition between Roman and Greek views of the early history of the world. The Greek historian Dionysios of Halikarnassos comments appreciatively upon a total absence of myths about Ouranos, Kronos, Zeus, Tartaros, and so on, among the Romans, for which he credits Romulus, who in the course of founding Rome and establishing its institutions wisely got rid of all the traditional stories that represented the gods behaving in a scandalous manner.

Romans mostly retained their own deities but identified them with the Greek deities…This process began as early as the sixth century B. C. In a few instances there was no good match, so that the Romans adopted the Greek god, assimilating the name to the Latin language. Thus Apollon became Apollo, Hades (via his byname Plouton, “Wealthy One”) became Pluto, the healer Asklepios became Aesculapius, and similarly the hero Herakles became Hercules. So when the Roman poet Ovid retells the Greek myth of Aphrodite, Hephaistos, and Ares, the story is essentially Greek but the names of the characters are Roman: Venus, Vulcan, and Mars.

In his Satyrica, the Roman novelist Petronius portrays a Roman nouveau riche who wishes to show off his knowledge of Greek literature and mythology but gets it only half-right: “Do you remember,” Trimalchio asks a dinner guest, “the twelve labors of Hercules or the story about Ulysses and how the Cyclops broke off his thumb with pincers? When I was a boy, I used to read these stories in Homer.” Trimalchio would not have found an account of Hercules’s labors in Homer, and though he could have found the story of Odysseus (Latinized form Ulysses), the hero did not lose his thumb. Trimalchio’s aspiration to appear learned in Greek culture indicates that such an accomplishment was prestigious for a Roman of his day.

Romans and their religious views were perverted early on and kept spiraling into globalism just like their culture overall. While Greeks and other Pagans had an inherent, inalienable connection to their Gods and lands (Blood and Soil), Romans abandoned their Gods and ventured far beyond Italy. Their conquest of foreigners while seemingly a proof of power, was detrimental to Roman identity. They were assimilating more and more alien elements which led to weakness. Jews exploited it brilliantly and Rome fell. A lesson worth learning.

There's a trend among some insisting that Gods aren't literal beings. They will state that 'a divine interacting with people on earth in physical form is from christianity,' but is that really the case?

In Germania, Tacitus describes how the Germanics were welcoming to guests who arrived at their doorstep. Why? Because it is well known, like in Grimnismal et al, that Gods frequently interact with people in physical form, many times in disguise. If Odin met you, you'd never know. King lists trace royal blood directly to Gods, a feat which would not be possible if they weren't literal beings.

Methinks the non-real mentality of divinity isn't just a key signifier of axial-age corruption, but also allows the multitude of contradictory interpretations which go against what is depicted in the legends. If Gods are literal beings, their nature cannot be changed to fit whatever personal worldview you have. But if they are not literal, you can turn them into, or twist them into, whatever nature suits your worldview.

According to Athenian tradition, the earliest kings of Athens are autochthonous, sprung from the very soil of Attica like plants; accordingly, their descendants the Athenians are natives, indigenous in the most literal sense, and not immigrants, and their relationship to the land is that of offspring to mother. As a homeland, then, Attica is inalienable from Athenians. Although other persons may occupy it, it can never really be theirs.

Cult sites could, for instance, be called Gudhem; that is, “home of the divine powers.” We have one Gudhem in Västergötland and one well known Gudme (Gudhem) in Fyn, Denmark. The divine powers had in a concrete sense settled among the people on earth.

Keep in mind that Marsh King's Daughter (just like all other Andersen’s tales) is christian propaganda. Literally an attempt to create new, christian fairy tales stealing elements of old Pagan ones. Despite being considered a classic writer Andersen was fundamentally anti-European.
