Heat-tolerant vegetables for hot summers:

Peppers (although bells don't like extreme heat)
Beans (I recommend "yard long" varieties, but they should be harvested around half that length)
Okra
Sweet potatoes
Tomatillos
Eggplant
Herbs (except cilantro)
Lacinato and Portuguese kale
Swiss chard
New Zealand, Malabar, and Okinawa spinach
Arugala, aka rocket
Mizuna
Sun King broccoli
Malanga (a tuber)
Turnips
Melons
Cucumbers (grow well with sweet potatoes) (Armenian cucumbers are the most heat resistant)
Summer squash and zucchini
Tomatoes
Sunchokes
Amaranth
Collards
Purslane
Sunflowers
Corn (keep in mind it takes up a lot of space for what often amounts to a small harvest)

If you’re like me and you eat A LOT of onions AND you also love organic gardening - Then I would recommend you save your dried out onion skins

These skins make a fantastic insect repellent for your garden. Take your dried out onion skins and boil them in water then let them sit in the water for 24 hours - After you strain the onion skins out, you now have an organic pesticide spray that you can use directly on your plants and in your garden

Best part is the spray won’t harm your plants nor manipulate the pH of the soil
