Despite initial success, his cancer had recurred as a large tumor involving his spleen and pancreas. His condition is inoperable, and while he is continuing chemotherapy to help control the spread, it is not curable”

HB 5044 lets the state buy vaccines from private vendors outside the CDC, mandates insurance coverage for any shot the DPH recommends, and creates a brand new adults vaccine distribution program.

HB5044 moved forward 86–61. And honestly, after watching the debate and the level of questioning from legislators who opposed this bill, it’s hard not to feel completely disgusted by what’s happening at the state level right now.

At the end of the day, this vote was largely along party lines. Every Republican opposed it, along with a handful of Democrats, and it still passed with a significant margin..

That should tell you everything you need to know about where the real power sits right now.

If you’re angry about this bill, don’t just focus on the headlines or the governor’s race. Look at the vote board. Look at the names in green. Those are the seats that determine outcomes like this.

We need help. Real help. We are heading into one of the most critical weeks before these bills are voted on, and if we want to stop them, we need people stepping up in specific ways.

1. WRITE AND SUBMIT AN OP-ED
If you are a strong writer, we need you. Write a short opinion piece about why you oppose SB450 AND HB5044 and submit it to your local newspaper, media outlets, or online news platforms. The goal is to get these published early next week so the public starts seeing this everywhere. If you’ve never written one before, keep it simple. Say who you are, what the bill does, why it matters, and end with a strong closing.

2. CONTACT LEGISLATORS AND REQUEST MEETINGS
We need direct pressure. Call and email Democrat legislators and request a meeting. Zoom is fine. Tell them you are a Connecticut resident, that you oppose these bills, and that you want a meeting with constituents. We will help find constituents. Then comment or message confirming who you contacted and whether you requested a meeting. We are trying to coordinate group meetings with as many legislators as possible.

3. CALL AND EMAIL LEGISLATORS
Pick five to ten Democrat legislators and send emails this weekend. Keep them short, direct, respectful, and firm. If they think people aren’t paying attention, they will pass this without hesitation.

4. USE YOUR NETWORK
Everyone keeps asking if we’ve reached out to certain people. Now we need you to do it. If you have a connection to a journalist, radio host, podcast, influencer, or anyone in media or politics, use it. We already have press materials. We just need people to get them into the right hands.

5. SOCIAL MEDIA PRESSURE
Don’t just share posts. Be strategic. Create your own content. Post short videos, personal stories, and clear breakdowns of what these bills actually do. Tag legislators and media outlets. Make it impossible to ignore.

6. CREATE CONTENT
Not everyone writes, but everyone can contribute. We need graphics, short clips, flyers, and simple explanations of these bills. If you are good with Canva or design, we need your help.

7. ORGANIZE SMALL GROUPS
This is how movements grow. Get five to ten people together, assign tasks, divide up legislator outreach, and coordinate efforts. Stop acting alone and start working as a team.

8. TRACK YOUR ACTIONS
When you submit an op-ed, contact a legislator, or reach out to media, please email BOTH Kate at [email protected] and [email protected] so we can track progress and build momentum.

This is the moment where people either step up or sit back and watch decisions get made for them. Don’t assume someone else is going to do it. Be the person that does.
