⚠️Watch out for scams that ask you for personal details to receive payouts⚠️

On 28 April 2026, eligible families with three or more children will receive $1,000 in Large Family LifeSG Credits (LFLC) 👶

You will receive an SMS from ' http://gov.sg/' when credits are disbursed.

Do note that there is no application needed. The sum will be *automatically credited* into the LifeSG digital wallet of the child's Child Development Account (CDA) trustee.

❗Beware: Fake school fees payment request are on the rise

Scammers are impersonating educational institutions and sending emails requesting urgent payment of outstanding school or tuition fees.

Victims are pressured to act quickly, with threats of disciplinary action if payment is not made promptly.

What you can do:

⚠️ Never use clickable links or QR codes provided by unknown persons to make payments/transfers

✅ Always verify payment instructions with the institution before proceeding with payment

⚠️ WhatsApp OTP (One-Time Password) scams are on the rise

For such scams, scammers would attempt to log into victims’ WhatsApp accounts by entering their mobile numbers on WhatsApp and request for a WhatsApp verification OTP. This would trigger an SMS containing the OTP to be sent to victims.

Scammers would pretend to be victims’ friends and ask victims for the OTP, claiming that the OTP was sent to them by mistake.

Upon receiving the OTPs, scammers would take over victims’ WhatsApp accounts and impersonate victims to scam others in victims’ contact lists.

What can you do?

✅ Never share your OTPs with anyone

✅ Remove unknown devices linked to your WhatsApp accounts by going to Settings > Linked Devices

✅ Enable the Two-Step Verification Feature on your WhatsApp account

🍫12 Tonnes of chocolate was reported to be stolen last week, don’t let your personal details be next! 💸

Scammers have been impersonating DBS and POSB banks and sent victims emails claiming that their digital tokens have expired.

Victims are tricked into clicking embedded links to ‘re-activate’ their tokens. The links lead to fake websites that steal victims’ personal and banking details. 🎣

Remember:

✅ Banks will never send you texts or emails with clickable links.

✅ Never disclose your personal information, internet banking and social media account log-in details, and one-time passwords (OTPs) to anyone

✅ Always check the sender’s addresses for discrepancies, and call the bank’s fraud hotline immediately if you suspect your banking or card details to be compromised

Check before investing

✅ Confirm the entity / individual is regulated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS):
- Financial Institutions Directory ( http://eservices.mas.gov.sg/fid)
- ⁠Financial Institution Representatives Register ( http://eservices.mas.gov.sg/rr)

✅ Check the company’s background including the entity’s background and track records.

✅ Know what you are investing in. Ask as many questions as needed to fully understand the investment opportunity, the costs and how returns will be generated.

✅ Never invest with companies that are not regulated by MAS.

Rise in e-commerce scams involving pre-order items

Scammers trick victims to make deposits or advanced payments for “pre-order items” such as Pokémon trading cards or K-pop items. Victims only realise they have been scammed when they failed to receive the items or when sellers become uncontactable.

Remember, only pay using secure payment options offered by the e-commerce platform, or cash on delivery so that you can inspect the products before making payment.

💜 BTS Fans: Don’t Let Scammers Steal Your BTS Comeback Hype! 🎤

Did you know that in 2025, $615,000 was lost to concert ticket scams in Singapore?! 💸
Although details of the ticket sales have not yet been announced for the BTS concert in Singapore, here's how you can do your part in the meantime to ACT against scams:

✅ Buy K-POP merchandise only through official retailers.

✅ Only buy your tickets from the official ticket agent. Do not buy resold tickets as they may not be honoured at the event venue and ticket holders may be turned away.

✅ Be wary of red flags such as request for advance payments and large discounts offered for faster transactions when shopping for merchandise online.

✨️ Preparing for Hari Raya? Stay safe from scams! Look out for these common scam types:

📦 Parcel Delivery Phishing – If you receive messages about failed parcel deliveries, check with the official store to verify the message and do not click on suspicious URLs.

💳 E-commerce Scams – Only shop on well-established platforms that have secure payment options.

🕵‍♂️ Impersonation Scams – Scammers impersonate government agencies like LTA to inform victims of outstanding fines/toll charges. Keep in mind that messages from government agencies will only be sent via SMS with the sender ID " http://gov.sg/". Check directly with the agency or LTA's One Motoring app/website.

🚗 Car Rental Scams – Rent only from reputable car-rental companies. Never make payment without meeting the salesperson and conducting a physical inspection of the car.

❌️Never share your personal (e.g. NRIC) and banking details (e.g. passwords, OTPs) with others.

Scammers are impersonating government agencies such as IRAS and LTA in phishing attempts via text messages or emails. Victims click a malicious link in the email or text message leading to fake websites designed to steal personal and banking card details.

Victims only discover that they have been scammed when they verify with the authorities or discover unauthorised transactions from their bank accounts or credit/debit cards.

🛡️Always check directly with the agencies at these platforms:
•⁠ ⁠IRAS’ myTax portal
•⁠ ⁠LTA’s OneMotoring platform

📧 Check that the email comes from an official government email address ending with “ http://gov.sg/”.

In 2025, there were 37,308 scam cases with $913.1mil in scam losses

- Scam situation remains concerning despite the drop in number of reported cases and amount lost compared to 2024
- Top three scam types with highest scam losses are investment scams, government officials impersonation scams and job scams
- Elderly victims saw highest average loss, although most victims (85.2%) were aged below 65.
- Cryptocurrency losses remained high and made up 20% of total scam losses.

Beware of impersonation scams!

Scammers have been impersonating government officials, and alleging victims of being involved in criminal activities. Scammers would ask victims to transfer money, cryptocurrency or hand over valuables (gold, jewellery) for “investigation purposes”.

⚠️ More recently, scammers have been asking victims to purchase and hand over luxury watches to support investigations. ⌚️👀

😱 Victims would realise they are scammed when scammers become uncontactable.

⚠️Government Officials will NEVER ask you to:
❌️ Transfer money and/or cryptocurrency over the phone; or 💰💴
❌️ Handover money, gold/luxury watches or other valuables via meet-ups. ⌚️

If you are asked to prepare cash or valuables for handover to an unknown person or place them for collection, DO NOT engage the caller further. Hang up and make a police report 📞

⚠️Scammers are impersonating LTA to trick victims into paying “unpaid tolls” or fines through fake links. These messages may look real, but they are designed to steal your banking/credit/debit card details and money.

✅ Remember: Official LTA SMS messages do NOT contain payment links and are only sent from official " http://gov.sg/" sender IDs. The LTA sender ID is no longer in use.

Be wary when buying or pre-ordering K-pop merchandise on platforms like Carousell. Scammers have been convincing interested buyers to make initial deposits via PayNow or bank transfers to secure the items. Victims only realised they had been scammed when they failed to receive the products or when the sellers became uncontactable.

🚩Be wary of red flags such the seller asking to communicate out of platform, or requesting direct bank transfer payments.

✅ Avoid making advance payments or direct bank transfers to the sellers.

✅ Delivery fees are paid upfront when purchases are made. Always check for updates regarding your order on official websites or trusted sources as you wait for your parcel 📦 to arrive.

More than S$53.4mil lost to scams in December 2025!

In December 2025, more than S$15.3mil was lost to scammers impersonating insurance/payment institutions (e.g. NTUC, UnionPay), and government officials (e.g. MAS and SPF).
