ETH Hits New All-Time High but Volume Fails to Expand — Risk of Retesting $4,000

On August 25, Ethereum (ETH) surged past $4,900, setting a new all-time high. However, trading volume did not show a significant increase, raising concerns of a potential short-term correction.

On the short-term hourly chart, ETH faced selling pressure after midnight, forming consecutive bearish candles. Price action deviated from the moving averages, and a bearish crossover emerged in technical indicators — signaling potential downside pressure in the near term.

Despite the breakout, short-term volatility risk remains elevated. If buying momentum fails to sustain, ETH may retest the $4,000 level.

BTC’s Decline This Month Mainly Driven by ETF Outflows

Bitcoin’s price drop this month is closely related to the recent outflows from spot ETFs. For a potential bull run to emerge before the end of the year, significant capital inflows would be needed.

In January 2024, the Nasdaq approved 11 spot Bitcoin ETFs, allowing investors to gain exposure to cryptocurrencies without holding the coins themselves. Since launch, these funds have collectively attracted $53.9 billion in investment.

However, in August, these ETFs saw a net outflow of $972 million — the second largest since inception, surpassed only by the $3.56 billion outflow in February. If outflows continue on Friday, it will mark the end of a four-month capital inflow streak.

WLFI Trading Set to Launch, $0.30 Becomes Community’s Main Expectation

With WLFI rebounding from its bottom on Binance Futures, the community widely expects the opening price to be around $0.30. According to previous token unlocking rules, early investors at $0.015 and $0.05 will unlock 20% of their tokens at launch. Estimated returns are as follows:

For $0.015 investors: ~4x profit at launch, with total unrealized gains up to 20x.

For $0.05 investors: ~1.2x profit at launch, with total unrealized gains around 6x.

The data shows a shift to positive net BTC inflows on Binance, with declining outflows and growing exchange reserves—indicating that investors are sending BTC to exchanges for potential profit-taking. Given Binance’s significant market volume, large-scale whale sell-offs could further amplify BTC price volatility.

Today, Bitcoin has already broken below the $115,000 level, with notable market turbulence. From a medium- to long-term perspective, the trend remains bearish. Ethereum sees net inflow of 46,000 ETH to CEX in 24 hours as bearish sentiment builds, possibly signaling a new wave of sell-offs

On August 22, on-chain data shows that approximately 46,000 ETH flowed into centralized exchanges (CEXs) in the past 24 hours. Among them, Binance recorded an inflow of 67,900 ETH, Kraken saw 7,142 ETH, and Coinbase Pro had 3,131 ETH inflow. In contrast, Bitfinex experienced a net outflow of 17,100 ETH, making it the largest outflow platform.

From a technical standpoint, ETH attempted a short rebound yesterday but was rejected near the $4,340 level. The gains were gradually erased throughout the day, with ETH dipping to an intraday low of around $4,200 before stabilizing. Market sentiment remains largely bearish.

In the short term, ETH shows limited upward momentum and faces the risk of further pullbacks. Investors are advised to keep a close eye on the $4,070 support level and proceed with caution.
