🛡 Update: VIP Fee Tier Protection & Unified Fee Roadmap

Deribit is extending its temporary adjustment to the VIP tier evaluation framework. This extension is designed to provide fee stability and planning confidence as we prepare for the launch of the new https://insights.deribit.com/exchange-updates/starbase-a-new-era-of-high-performance-trading-on-deribit/ matching engine and the upcoming consolidation of Coinbase International Exchange (INTX) with Deribit.

Key Adjustments for May 2026
• Downgrade Protection: The evaluation will bypass downgrade conditions for accounts currently classified as VIP 2 through VIP 6. Traders whose April volume falls below their current tier threshold will retain their existing fee status.
• VIP Tier 1: As an equity-based tier, VIP 1 remains subject to standard equity eligibility requirements.
• Standard Upgrades: The automated upgrade pathway remains active. Any account meeting the criteria for a higher volume threshold will be upgraded according to standard logic.

🚀 Looking Ahead: Fee Unification & Starbase

This period of protection serves as a bridge as we prepare to merge the INTX linear perpetuals with Deribit’s options and futures suite. We will soon harmonize our fee structures to reflect a single, powerhouse institutional venue.

Key Integration Milestones
• Now: Starbase Testnet (UAT) is live.
• July 2026: Starbase Production release.
• August 17, 2026: INTX Cutover. All OI and collateral migrate to Deribit, All balances, positions, and trading activity will reside exclusively on Deribit.

🔔 Key Changes:
• Equinix LD4 Cross-Connect Equalization: Starting June 2026, Deribit and Equinix will equalize all cross-connects in the LD4 facility. Connections will terminate directly at Deribit's edge switches, eliminating intermediate hops and improving latency. No action is required on the client side. Notifications regarding specific maintenance windows will be provided in advance.

• MMP Time Limits: interval and frozen_time are now capped at 1 hour (3,600s). Existing configs above this limit will be auto-migrated.
• Instrument Creation Channel: New subscription channel instrument.creation.. notifies instantly when a new instrument is listed.
• Main Account Trade Queries: Main accounts can now query private/get_user_trades_by_* to retrieve subaccount trade data.
• Idempotent Subaccount Transfers: Optional nonce parameter added to private/withdraw and private/submit_transfer_between_subaccounts to prevent duplicate transfers on retries.

🚨 Scheduled Maintenance (Cross-Connected Clients) - May 7, 2026

On May 7, 2026, Deribit’s network team will carry out scheduled maintenance between 10:00 and 12:00 UTC. This maintenance affects a limited set of clients.

Scope:
Replacement of two network switches with newer hardware.

What to expect:
• Cross-connected clients relying on a single connection may experience a brief interruption of up to 90 seconds.
• Clients with backup connectivity and AWS connected clients are not expected to experience any disruption. Trading will remain open throughout.

🔧 Scheduled Maintenance for Colocated Clients Only – April 13, 2026

On April 13, 2026, Deribit’s network team will carry out planned infrastructure maintenance between 07:00 and 9:30 UTC. This maintenance affects colocated clients only.

What is happening?
Two items are being addressed:
🔹Colocation internet switches are being replaced with new hardware (RCI-40), and
🔹A firewall is being added to the internet connection for colocated clients (RCI-42). The firewall addition will not affect your existing internet connection.

What does it mean for you?
✅ Trading stays open - No trading interruption expected.

⚠️ Possible intermittent disruption – General internet and IPMI access for colocated clients may experience brief packet/connection loss or higher latency during the 07:00–9:30 UTC window.

Tick Size Update for Altcoin Perpetuals

On Tuesday 28 April, 2026, 9 AM UTC – Deribit will implement changes to the tick sizes for 9 altcoin perpetuals for both on-screen order books and block trades.
The change will impact the following Linear USDC perpetuals:

Linear Perpetual: Current tick size → New tick size
• SOL_USDC: 0.01 → 0.001
• ADA_USDC: 0.0001 → 0.00001
• ALGO_USDC: 0.0001 → 0.00001
• BCH_USDC: 0.01 → 0.001
• BNB_USDC: 0.05 → 0.01
• DOT_USDC: 0.001 → 0.0001
• NEAR_USDC: 0.001 → 0.0001
• TRUMP_USDC: 0.001 → 0.0001
• UNI_USDC: 0.001 → 0.0001

Tick size, the minimum increment by which the price of orders can change, is a crucial element in trading. Deribit is implementing this change to improve the tradability of these pairs and generate more volume on increased ticks. New orders at smaller tick sizes will be rejected as of 28 April 2026 9 AM UTC.
Please note that this change will apply to all new & existing orders but will not affect existing positions.
Due to the tick size changes all being reductions, and the multiples used, any orders that conform to the old tick sizes will also conform to the new tick sizes automatically. However, to avoid any unexpected behaviour moving forward, traders would still be wise to update their systems in a timely manner to account for the new tick sizes.

Scheduled Maintenance - AWS Infrastructure

On April 28, we will carry out scheduled AWS infrastructure maintenance.

Starting at 21:00 UTC, gateways will be upgraded sequentially. Each upgrade will take 15 minutes, with 6 gateways in total, bringing the full maintenance window to around 2 hours.

HFT Update: Single-Node Restriction Re-enabled
We are re-enabling the restriction limiting each subaccount to one HFT node at a time. If a subaccount logs into a new node, any existing sessions on the previous node will be automatically disconnected.

AWS PrivateLink
We have expanded our AWS PrivateLink support to include three distinct gateway groups of ports (802x, 2802x, and 3802x) to facilitate access to different HFT nodes.

Node Configuration: Restrict each subaccount to a single HFT node to avoid intentional disconnects.
AWS Settings: If using PrivateLink, update Route53 Private Hosted Zones to support SSL on ports 443, 2443, and 3443.

🚨 Change to Deribit Option Delivery Process

From April 1, 2026, Deribit will move from cash-settled options to future-settled options on all linear (USDC settled) options.

What is changing?
Instead of settling directly to cash, expiring linear options will now be physically settled into a futures contract with the same expiry date at 8:00 UTC. The expired futures contract is then cash-settled in the usual manner. This also means that each option expiry will have an associated futures contract during its entire lifecycle.

What does it mean for you?
✅ Consistency: Structural change to the delivery mechanism - no impact on your final P/L or settlement currency.
✅ Lower Fees: Delivery fees are now charged only on the net remaining futures position. This means your fees will either decrease or stay the same.
✅ Performance: Improved engine stability during major expiries.

Rollout Schedule:
🔹April 1, 2026: Rollout begins with Linear (USDC settled) options
🔹Later Date (TBA): The change will be implemented for Inverse (Coin settled) options.

Note for API Users: Ensure your systems account for the brief transition from option to future during the 08:00 UTC expiry window.
