The Ethiopian Economics Association, in collaboration with Arba Minch University, has successfully concluded a two-day Advanced Impact Evaluation Training designed to strengthen the capacity of researchers, practitioners, and students in rigorous policy and program evaluation.
Conducted from April 2–3, 2026, in Arba Minch, the training was delivered by Molla Alemayehu and Abule Mehare. The program convened a diverse group of participants, including senior faculty members from Arba Minch, Wolaita Sodo, and Dilla Universities, doctoral students, representatives of the South Ethiopia Chamber of Commerce and sectoral associations, and policymakers from the South Ethiopia Regional State Planning and Development Bureau.
The training provided a comprehensive blend of theoretical and practical insights into advanced impact evaluation methodologies widely applied in economic and policy research. Key topics included Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs), Difference-in-Differences (DID), matching techniques, and Regression Discontinuity Design (RDD).
Through structured lectures, interactive discussions, and applied case analyses, participants enhanced their capacity to design, implement, and critically interpret impact evaluations. The program also underscored the importance of evidence-based approaches in informing effective policy decisions and development interventions.
Participants commended the training for its relevance and practical orientation, noting that it equipped them with valuable analytical tools for research and policy application. The initiative reflects the continued commitment of the Ethiopian Economics Association to promoting evidence-based policymaking and strengthening research capacity in Ethiopia.
