A great week for trading!

The dollar slipped at the end of the week after the US Supreme Court struck down the emergency tariffs, interrupting a four-day rally but not derailing the broader rebound.

The euro strengthened slightly but lacked follow-through, and the yen pushed back above 155 as Japan’s core inflation slowed, easing immediate tightening pressure on the BOJ.

Overall, the dollar’s pullback looks more like position trimming than a shift in trend. Firmer inflation and reduced Fed cut pricing continue to provide near-term support.

The Canadian dollar weakened this week as a stronger US dollar and cooling domestic inflation shifted the rate narrative back toward possible easing from the Bank of Canada.

Bond markets echoed the shift in tone. Canadian yields edged lower across the curve, with the 10 year drifting toward its lowest levels since early December, reflecting lower inflation and reduced pressure on the central bank to tighten further.

The takeaway this week is that Canada is drifting back into the global easing conversation just as US data has stabilised. That divergence keeps CAD biased higher on rallies in the USD and dips in oil.

The euro strengthened this week after the European Central Bank opened its euro liquidity backstop to almost all foreign central banks.

The ECB will allow virtually any non sanctioned central bank outside the euro area to borrow euros against euro-denominated collateral.

The significance for FX markets is structural. By giving foreign central banks easier access to euro funding in times of stress, the ECB is effectively lowering the barrier to holding and transacting in euros.

For markets, this reinforces that the euro is no longer just trading on rate differentials. It is quietly being built out as a geopolitical alternative, and that shift is not easily reversed.
