Sūrah 49 - Al-Ḥujurāt
1-Believers, do not advance before Allah and His Messenger, and fear Allah. Allah is indeed All Hearing, All Knowing.
Explanation:
This Sūrah stresses the manners, greatness, respect, and honor for Allah and His Messenger. Allah commands His believing servants to the matters that are required by faith in Allah and His Messenger, which includes carrying out His commands and avoiding His prohibitions. He also commands them to tread the path given by Him and to follow the sunnah of the Prophet in all their matters. They should not go before Allah and His Messenger by advancing any suggestion before allowing the Prophet to speak, and they should not issue a command until the Prophet issues one. This is the real respectful behavior towards the Almighty and His Messenger, and it is something that is obligatory for all the believers. This is the foundation for eternal bliss and success, and its absence signifies absence of eternal success and everlasting blessings.
It implies a strong prohibition of giving preference to anyone's statement over the statement of the Prophet. This is because when the sunnah of the Prophet becomes manifest, it becomes obligatory for everyone to follow it and consider it above all the statements of anyone else, no matter who it is.
Afterwards, Allah commands the believers to observe taqwā in general.
According to Țalq b. Habib, taqwā implies obedience to Allah according to the divine light while hoping to earn reward from Him, and abandoning disobedience to Allah according to His divine light and fearing His punishment.
Allah is indeed All Hearing of all the voices at all times, whether they are uttered in private or public. All Knowing of the apparent and the hidden, the previous and the future, the obligations, possibilities, and impossibilities.
The mention of these two of Allah's great names after making mention of the prohibition of advancing before Allah and His Messenger and the issuance of the command to observe taqwã, carries with it an element of encouragement to fulfill these beautiful commands and praiseworthy etiquettes and warns against refusing to follow them.
