*ADVENTURES ON CANNIBAL ISLAND*
They had sailed hundreds of miles away from their home. The journey had been very hectic amidst windstorms. They experienced several ship wrecks that almost led to their death.
Now, they were overjoyed that they could spot a land. The husband and wife decided to sail to this heathen island and bring the gospel to them. "They must be won to Christ at any cost to our lives", the husband hummed.
As they rowed their boats towards the direction of the land, they saw speeding towards them a band of three young men and an old man holding sharp pointed long sticks in their hands. The couple became overly frightened. They had heard stories of people being eaten alive by savages of such islands. Were they to meet similar fate?
As the men drew near them they mumbled some words and giggled hysterically. Just then, one of the old men cut his hand with a knife and rushed into the waters encircling their boat. The others with their sticks circled around the couple.
They led them ashore, fed and accommodated them. The missionaries began their evangelism right away, urging them to change their ways and turn to Christ.
In the evening when they were about to retire to bed, the wife asked one of the Islanders why they did what they did when they came to meet them?
"Man-eating sharks abound at the spot you had reached," the islander replied, "if we had left you to come here by yourselves, you would have long become lunch for them. The old man cut himself to distract the sharks with the blood, while we surrounded you to ward them off".
Surprised at their selfless deeds, the wife ran to her husband and exclaimed, "the heathens are already Christians!"
There are many who do not claim to know God, yet their love, kindness, and selflessness, show they are responding to the promptings of God's Spirit. Such are those whom Christ commend, "Inasmuch as you have done it unto one of the least of these My brothers, you have done it unto Me"!
The Apostle Paul writes in Romans 2:11-16 that there are many people who do not profess to be godly, yet their lives show that the Law of God is written on their hearts. One author explains it clearly in this way:
"Our standing before God depends, not upon the amount of light we have received, but upon the use we make of what we have. Thus even the heathen who choose the right as far as they can distinguish it are in a more favorable condition than are those who have had great light, and profess to serve God, but who disregard the light, and by their daily life contradict their profession." (The Desire of Ages, 239).
Do you really know God, or you merely profess Him?
