🎲 Tormin Bayeshall – Master of Dice of the Under-Mountain Folk
Greetings, Alchemists! ⚗️
Today we would like to introduce you more closely to the new guest of the Fallen Moon tavern – the dwarf Tormin Bayeshall, a master of the game of dice.
At the same time, we invite you to lift the veil on the traditions and gambling spirit of the under-mountain folk – the children of Tara Gazar.
⬇️ The story begins below ⬇️
“Amid the cheerful din of noisy companies, the clinking of beer mugs, and rousing songs in any dwarven tavern, one can always make out a distinctive sound — the knock of dice striking the walls of a leather or wooden cup. Dice games are the most beloved form of gambling on both shores of the Middle Sea among the children of Tara Gazar.
Dwarves firmly believe that dice were the very first game of chance to appear in the world of Ji`Da. Even in the most ancient chronicles of the under-mountain folk, mentions of dice can be found dating back to the Golden Age.
Over the millennia since its end, dozens of variations and rule sets have emerged — from throwing a single die to games played with six at once. Moreover, almost every dwarven clan has its own strictly unique rules, revered as the only true ones.
For centuries, disputes over whose rules are older — and therefore more authentic — have left dwarves with broken noses and missing teeth. It is no coincidence that a saying circulates among them:
‘If you want to start a fight between two dwarves, ask whose dice game is the best.’
Love for beer and the thrill of gambling are the only two weaknesses capable of distracting even the most respected and busy dwarf from important clan affairs. It is hardly surprising, then, that every dwarven tavern has special tables where anyone can test their luck and taste the intoxicating joy of chance.
Among the regulars at such tables, one name enjoys particular fame — Tormin Bayeshall, a master of dice whose name has long been synonymous with luck and skill. They say he knows dozens of rule sets and variations, and can sense the outcome of a throw even before the dice touch the bottom of the cup. For some, Tormin is a role model; for others, a reason to double-check their purse before leaving the tavern.
Yet Tormin Bayeshall is known not only for his mastery, but also for a temperament that sharply sets him apart from most serious and solemn players. He plays lightly, with a smile and a joke, as if every round were not a test of fate, but an excuse for cheerful conversation.
At the table he jokes, teases his opponents, tells tall tales, and laughs louder than anyone else, creating the impression of a carefree reveler for whom dice are merely entertainment to accompany a mug of beer. Those who mistake this ease for lack of skill, however, quickly pay for their error.
Tormin laughs at defeat as sincerely as he celebrates victory, and never leaves the table in a foul mood. He claims that luck favors those who do not cling to it too tightly, and that the best throw is the one made with a light heart.
That is why Tormin is loved not only for the games he wins, but for the festive spirit he brings with him. Where he is, there is laughter, the clink of mugs, and a thrill of азарт that no one can resist.”
