The average profit of crypto investors in 2023 was $800.

CoinLedger analysts compared about 500,000 market participants from the United States, Australia, Canada, and other countries. They found that, on average, cryptocurrency investors made $888 per person in 2023, which is amazing since investors lost $7,102 in 2022, taking into account the collapse of FTX, of course. If FTX hadn’t, the losses would have been lower.

The report reveals that the most unpopular cryptocurrency was Ether (ETH). Crypto investors got rid of it most often. Solana (SOL), Bitcoin (BTC), BNB, and Polygon (MATIC) were also in the top five.

And Bitcoin is the least frequently sold.

Also, analysts named Coinbase the most popular CEX by number of transactions in 2023, but in reality, this is probably not true because most of the respondents live in the United States, where Coinbase is the leader.

We've talked about Proof of Work (PoW) before, now let's discuss Proof of Stake (PoS).

Proof of Stake (PoS) is a consensus mechanism used in blockchain networks to validate and confirm transactions. In a PoS system, validators are chosen to create new blocks and secure the network based on the number of coins they hold and are willing to "stake" as collateral.

Validators take turns proposing and validating new blocks, with the chance of being chosen to create a new block being proportional to the amount of cryptocurrency they hold and are willing to stake.

PoS is considered more energy-efficient than Proof of Work (PoW) and is used by blockchain networks such as Ethereum 2.0, Cardano, and Tezos.

Experts have restored access to a cryptocurrency wallet with $3 million worth of bitcoins

Experts helped an investor recover the password to a cryptocurrency wallet that held 43.6 BTC.

The man created a cryptocurrency wallet in 2013 and generated a 20-digit password using the RoboForm app. He stored the password encrypted, but when the file became corrupted, he lost access to the assets.

Nearly 10 years after the incident, the investor sought help from hacker Joe Grand, who discovered a vulnerability in RoboForm and matched the password to the cryptocurrency wallet, restoring access to $3 million.

What are Bitcoin Ordinals (aka BRC-20)?

Let’s explain in a simple way the essence of the most, perhaps, hyped phenomenon of 2023 on the Bitcoin network.

The BRC-20 standard was introduced in March 2023 by a developer under the pseudonym Domo. The standard utilizes the Bitcoin Ordinals protocol, which allows for additional data to be added to individual satoshis (the smallest unit of BTC), essentially allowing for the creation of tokens within the Bitcoin blockchain.

Let’s keep it even simpler:

The Ordinals protocol allows you to “write a note” on one of these satoshis as if you were to take a sharp needle and inscribe something on a coin.

An “inscription” can be anything from simple text to a picture or code, and thus a regular satoshi is turned into a unique token that is something like an NFT.

Implications:

BRC-20 proved so popular that it has overloaded the Bitcoin network Network fees reached up to $60 per transaction (!!!), and the speed of transaction processing slowed down significantly.

Now, the popularity of inscriptions on Bitcoin has since decreased, but this practice has moved to other blockchains, which tend to be unprepared for the influx of inscriptions and start to “crash”
