👀51% Attacks in Blockchain: Understanding the Threats and Risks👾

🤖Blockchain technology has gained widespread adoption in recent years as a decentralized and secure way to store and transfer data. However, as with any technology, it is not immune to attacks. One of the most significant threats to blockchain networks is the 51% attack🦹‍♂️

💬A 51% attack occurs when a single entity or group of entities controls more than 50% of the computing power or hash rate of a blockchain network. With this level of control, the attacker can potentially manipulate transactions, double-spend coins, and prevent other network participants from confirming transactions. In essence, the attacker gains the ability to rewrite the blockchain's history and control the network. The name "51% attack" comes from the fact that the attacker needs to control more than 50% of the network's computing power, which is referred to as the "51% threshold." This type of attack is generally considered to be very difficult to execute on a large blockchain network such as Bitcoin due to the decentralized nature of the network and the significant computing power required😙

👶However, smaller blockchain networks with fewer participants may be more susceptible to 51% attacks. For example, in January 2019, the Ethereum Classic (ETC) network suffered a 51% attack, resulting in more than $1 million worth of ETC being double-spent.

💰To execute a 51% attack, an attacker would need to invest a significant amount of resources in acquiring the necessary computing power. They would also need to maintain that computing power for an extended period to maintain control of the network. 🔥Blur burns🔥

📆This week, more than $4 million worth of Ethereum has been burned (or destroyed) as a result of Blur, a new NFT marketplace, giving away tokens.

🥰On Valentine’s Day, the token was given out for free to Blur users who had exchanged a great deal of Ethereum NFTs on the market over the previous six months.

😱Initially, the price was as high as $5, but within less than an hour, it dropped below $1. At its present price of $0.90, the BLUR coin is 82% lower than its launch day peak.

💬Ultra Sound Money reports that Blur has burned more than 2,469 Ethereum to date. With the August 2021 London hard fork, a portion of the transaction fees formerly paid to miners are now burnt and removed from circulation.

👿 Blur also has a rather tough policy towards OpenSea, stating that it will charge additional fees from artists if they do not prevent the sale of their collections on the competitor's platform.
