Japan's Ground Self-Defense Force from May 17 to 22 is conducting large-scale exercises on the islands of the southwestern island chain of the Ryukyu Islands - Miyako, Ishigaki, and Yonaguni. The exercises involve 300 Japanese military personnel from various regional commands, including units from Kyushu and Hokkaido, as well as 20 Marines from the 3rd Marine Division stationed in Okinawa.
During the exercises, the Japanese side is conducting a series of measures to strengthen the operational reinforcement of the southwestern direction, including the deployment of anti-ship weapons, joint command with the US side, and the use of unmanned reconnaissance and surveillance systems. Elements of the "advanced island barrier" concept are being implemented, aimed at deterring the actions of China's naval forces in the East China Sea and the Taiwan Strait.

1. USA - $954 billion (a decrease of 7.5% due to the lack of new aid packages for Ukraine, but the budget will again exceed $1 trillion in 2027).
2. China - $336 billion.
3. Russia - $190 billion.
Together, these three countries account for 51% of all global military spending - $1.48 trillion.
Special attention was paid to Germany, which for the first time since the country's unification (1990) exceeded the threshold of 2% of GDP on defense, reaching 2.3%. The military budget of Germany soared by 24% - to $114 billion, which allowed Berlin to take 4th place in the global ranking.
The German government has already announced plans to further increase spending to 3.5% of GDP by 2029.
