Do you know what I'm terrible at?

I never share testimonials on my social media.

I don't really plaster my socials at all with JSA members in their undies, I don't take advantage of my members for sales.

Some days our accounts sheet would look a lot better if we did. 😅

There's several reasons I don't really plaster you with testimonials, I mean we have some on the website but it's not my go to thing.

1) It's not MY SUCCESS to share, it's theirs, I just provided the structure, support, team and community, I don't feel like it's mine to share, it's their progress.

2) People only celebrate their top 1% of transformations. I'm just as proud of someone who loses 1kg as I am someone who loses 20kg. I am just as happy as someone getting their first chin up as I am someone gaining confidence to use a gym.

3) I'd much rather you just took a leap of faith and trusted me.

I created my business page on Facebook in April 2014, nearly 10 years ago.

I've not caved to paid posts or endorsements.

I've stayed true to my word on so many things.

I've put my hand up and said I'm wrong whenever I am.

You can't expect your training to progress in a linear fashion.

Progress across all domains comes in ups and downs, highs and lows.

Periods across the year, whether Christmas, injury, holiday or general set backs tend to end up with a de-training effect, where you quite simply become weaker and lose what you worked for.

I experienced this first hand. I just changed time zones for the 4th time in 5 weeks living out of a suitcase.

Then I looked at my training program and realised, it didn't really matter.

My coach (and all my coaches that support me in the academy) don't tend to set the weight you're lifting per session.

Which may seem counterintuitive but actually it saves a lot of upset and can save you from feeling depressed when you leave the weights room.

I look at my program yesterday, for my set of bench it says

"RPE 6, 7, 8, 8, 9"

For those who don't speak fluent fitness, that means "Rate of Perceived Exertion"

What that means is:

James go find a weight that is a 6/10 hard, then rest, the next set find one thats 7/10 etc.

This means that no matter how de-trained or unfit I have become, it doesn't matter.

The workout is based upon effort, not progress.

Anytime I'm coming off the back of a 'set back period' I can change my objectives to RPE, not the weight I used last week or last month when I had no distractions in my life.

Then over time you can note what you're lifting and you'll realise your RPE 8 this week may be a RPE 6 in a few weeks time.

Effort is one of the best currencies to use when training.

Then if you are sleep deprived because your kid kept you awake, maybe the segment of your menstrual cycle is tiring you out or you're shattered from playing 5 a side with the lads, you can approach your training with the right type of mindset.

As your coach, I don't actually care what you lift.

I care how hard you work.

I know every man and his dog has a challenge that starts in January, but if you have a feeling my coaching approach may be aligned with your needs.

This time next week we'll be in the gym.

Shaking a bit, weak as hell, re-racking weights going cwoar that felt harder than usual.

We'll be looking at our training programs thinking "that can't be right?"

We'll be waking up creaking and moaning with soreness, but there will be a little part in the back of your mind saying 'good to be back'.

By now, no doubt you're craving veggies and a workout, but the gym is closed so its best to just ride this storm out with another couple of sausages and a mid afternoon nap.

I know Diren just fired out an email about HIS CHALLENGE, and you probably have an inbox full of different coaches all saying the same thing.

BUT...

I just want to say this.

I don't mind who you go with, just commit to someone and be accountable.

There is nothing worse than reaching February and you still haven't got things moving, before you know it, it's now March.

Then it's December and you're in the same place you were last year.

This statistic is made up: but I reckon the MAJORITY of people who don't win January, don't win the year.

Come out swinging, enjoy the ride, win every single day, don't be a b*tch, enjoy the soreness and celebrate every win on the way to the finish line, then when you cross it, set another finish line to work towards.

Then tomorrow I fly back to the UK for Christmas with my family.

I'm shattered. 🤣🪫

Although I've drank too much, ate too much and slept too little and lost all strength I accrued for months.

There is one constant variable I keep up, training.

What I've come to learn about training is this:

Training doesn't care if you're a bit hungover.

Training doesn't care if you had a late night.

Training doesn't care if you're 6kg over your normal weight.

Training doesn't care if you're lifting lighter weights than last week.

Training doesn't care if you committed carbicide at an Italian last night.

Training doesn't care if you're in a crappy hotel gym.

Training doesn't care if you're outside walking, running or if you're inside lifting or hitting a punch bag.

Training doesn't care if you're doing martial arts or max effort leg press.

Training just cares that you do it.

Training allows so many people to re-centre their headspace. it's a little dividend you pay in every day you can to balance the books.

If you're currently not training, you don't need me to tell you what you're missing, because you already know.

If you're already maintaining a good training schedule, good.

But come 2024 it's time to build on that training.

Here's my 2024 checklist:

- a new program that challenges you, if you write it yourself chances are it will be full of things you're good at, not much else

- accountability, someone to keep you true to your workouts. Someone to talk to when you miss a workout but also a community to share your big wins when they happen

- dialling in nutrition - by no means be a saint, but let's look to seek marginal improvements in every area we can

- a little pinch of Kaizen (Japanese word for continual improvement) this is based on the idea that small, ongoing positive changes can reap significant improvements over time

- smash the back doors off it, maybe a goal like 'fittest I've ever been' and run a half mara. Maybe 'best I've ever looked' and have a nice weekend away somewhere hot to show that shiz off

Whatever it is, don't be a b*tch and train every day you can in December.

Come January, we dial that sh*t in.
