"Hasharon" Prison: A Station for Humiliation Before Transfer to "Damon"

"Hasharon" prison serves as a temporary detention station before transferring female prisoners to "Damon" prison; however, testimonies collected by the institutions indicate that it has turned into a station for terrorizing and humiliating female prisoners.

Testimonies indicate that female prisoners are held in filthy cells unfit for human life, where they are served tiny quantities of inedible food, and the detainees are left on thin and dirty mattresses.

The policy of strip searches also formed one of the most prominent practices documented by the testimonies of female prisoners, as many of them were subjected to beating when they refused this humiliating search.

In a testimony from the female prisoner (H. B.): "I was transferred to "Hasharon" prison. Upon my arrival, a female soldier received me, and while I was climbing long stairs, she was cursing and pushing me. She led me to a small, dirty solitary confinement cell, which contained only a mattress on the floor without a blanket or pillow, and a very small bathroom. I stayed there for four days alone without anyone speaking to me, and they used to bring me cold and bad food, and during these four days, I did not eat the food and used to throw it away. The weather was very cold, and I asked for a blanket, but they refused to give it to me and told me that it was forbidden. The mattress cover was made of cold nylon."

This testimony constitutes one of dozens of similar testimonies regarding what the female prisoners lived through in "Hasharon" prison.

There is a real danger that the prison administration is deliberately provoking prisoners while the world is distracted by military developments and the war with Iran.

Repressive measures have intensified: tighter restrictions inside prison sections, reduced yard time, and in many prisons the yard hour has been completely denied.

The prison administration has escalated inspection raids, arbitrary transfers, and collective punishment against prisoners.

A prisoner today is completely isolated from the outside world, and when they hear sirens without knowing what is happening, they are left in confusion and anxiety about their families.

The arrival of a new prisoner used to be a breath of fresh air that brought news from outside, but now new detainees are held separately to prevent the flow of information.

A new law allows court sessions through video conferencing, meaning detainees no longer appear physically before the courts.

This system undermines the prisoner’s right to legal consultation, proper representation, and a fair trial.

Freezing lawyers’ visits and forcing remote hearings increases the prisoner’s isolation and deepens the psychological abuse against them.

In many cases, the only information prisoners receive about the outside world comes from the jailer, and it is often distorted to frustrate them.

These policies are part of a systematic effort to isolate prisoners and impose greater psychological and physical pressure on them.

The continued “state of emergency” gives the prison administration sweeping powers used to further restrict prisoners and violate international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions.

The world’s preoccupation with the war on Iran must not be used as a cover for escalating violations inside the prisons.

Thousands of Palestinian prisoners, including women, children, and the sick, are facing worsening humanitarian conditions amid lack of medical care, shrinking food supplies, and the spread of disease.

There is an urgent need for international protection and independent fact-finding committees to investigate the conditions inside these prisons.

The International Committee of the Red Cross and other international institutions must be allowed to visit prisons regularly and without restrictions.

The continued silence of the international community only encourages further violations and undermines justice and human rights.

Our silence is our shame. And your shedding of light on this bleeding wound is the weakest of faith.

Do not forget the female and male prisoners. And freedom remains the best medicine for the prisoner.
