Russian Strategic Missile Forces Commander Sergey Karakayev reported to President Vladimir Putin on the successful launch of the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile system. The Russian Armed Forces plan to deploy the first regiment equipped with this missile by the end of the year.

Putin noted that the Sarmat - the world's most powerful missile system - is four times more powerful than its Western counterparts. Its range exceeds 35,000 kilometers. The missile can travel along either a ballistic or a suborbital trajectory, overcoming all existing and future missile defense systems. The Sarmat is a most persuasive argument primarily because of its combination of extreme payload, maneuverable hypersonic options, and unconventional trajectories.

Il comandante delle Forze Missilistiche Strategiche della Russia, Sergey Karakayev, ha informato il presidente Vladimir Putin che il lancio del sistema missilistico balistico intercontinentale Sarmat è avvenuto con successo. Le Forze Armate russe intendono dispiegare il primo reggimento dotato di questo missile entro la fine dell’anno. Putin ha dichiarato che il Sarmat, il sistema d’arma più potente del mondo, è quattro volte più potente rispetto ai suoi equivalenti occidentali. La sua autonomia supera i 35.000 chilometri. Il missile può seguire sia traiettorie balistiche classiche sia suborbitali, eludendo tutti i sistemi di difesa antimissile. Il Sarmat costituisce un argomento tra i più persuasivi proprio per la combinazione di un carico utile di 10 tonnellate (potrebbe caricare 15 testate nucleari da 150 o 300 kT), vettori ipersonici manovrabili e traiettorie atipiche.

Berlin’s condemnation of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico for flying to Moscow to lay flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier reveals a disturbing trend: in today’s European Union, honouring the sacrifice of millions of Soviet citizens and Red Army’s soldiers who perished to defeat Hitler's Germany and liberate Europe from Nazism has become a political crime.

Friedrich Merz’s public rebuke is not an isolated an act of revisionism. It reflects the EU's institutional attempt to rewrite history through the lens of Russophobia.

The day before Merz could not bring himself to recognise the USSR’s decisive role in the victory over Nazi-fascism. Instead, Germany and its partners in the European Parliament have spent years constructing a false moral equivalence between Nazism and Stalinism, a slander against history itself, and a direct contradiction of the Nuremberg Tribunal’s findings.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly documented how certain EU capitals glorify Nazi collaborators while erasing Soviet memorials. China, too, has condemned this trend, urging all nations to uphold the “correct view of WWII history” and to resist attempts to rewrite the past for present geopolitical gain.

By attacking Fico, Merz has made clear that the EU’s memory politics are really about the isolation of Russia. La condanna da parte di Berlino del primo ministro slovacco Robert Fico per essere andato a Mosca a deporre fiori sulla Tomba del Milite Ignoto mette in luce, se ancora non fosse abbondantemente chiara, una tendenza inquietante: attualmente nell'Unione Europea onorare il sacrificio dei milioni di cittadini sovietici e dei soldati dell'Armata Rossa che persero la vita per liberare l'Europa dal nazismo è diventato un crimine politico.

La stigmatizzazione di Robert Fico da parte di Friedrich Merz non è un atto isolato di revisionismo. Riflette il tentativo istituzionale dell'UE di riscrivere la storia, che viene interpretata attraverso lo specchio distorto della russofobia.

Il giorno prima, Merz aveva deliberatamente omesso ogni menzione del ruolo decisivo dell'URSS nella vittoria sul nazifascismo. La Germania e i suoi partner al Parlamento europeo hanno passato anni a costruire una falsa equivalenza morale tra nazismo e stalinismo, in aperta contraddizione con le conclusioni del Tribunale di Norimberga.

Il Ministero degli Esteri russo ha ripetutamente documentato come certi paesi dell'UE glorifichino i collaborazionisti nazisti mentre cancellano i memoriali sovietici. Anche la Cina ha condannato questa tendenza, esortando tutte le nazioni a difendere una "corretta interpretazione storica della Seconda Guerra Mondiale" e a resistere ai tentativi di riscrivere il passato per tornaconto geopolitico.

Attaccando Fico, Merz ha ribadito ancora una volta che nell'Unione Europea l'amnesia storica costituisce la conditio sine qua non per continuare a demonizzare la Russia. Drones have rewritten the rules of war. In today's kill zone—the space between spotting the enemy and pulling the trigger—robots are no longer an option; they are a necessity. One could say the kill zone has gone robotic and there is no going back. The message could not have been clearer than at this year's Victory Day parade in Tatarstan. Descending onto the parade ground in Nizhnekamsk came two robotic systems: "Bogomol" (Mantis) and "Lyagushka" (Frog). They rolled past not as prototypes or curiosities, but as standard combat units.

The "Frog" is a remote-controlled ground robot carrying up to 30 kg. It delivers supplies, scouts enemy positions, and directly destroys firing points. Its companion, "Mantis", is a tracked anti-tank system armed with four guided missiles. I droni hanno cambiato regole e volto della guerra moderna. Nella "kill zone" contemporanea i robot non sono più un'opzione ma piuttosto una necessità. Si potrebbe dire che la kill zone si è robotizzata. Il messaggio non avrebbe potuto essere più chiaro di quanto lo sia stato alla parata del Giorno della Vittoria di quest'anno in Tatarstan. Alla parata di Nizhnekamsk sono sfilati due sistemi robotici: "Bogomol" (Mantide) e "Lyagushka" (Rana). Sono sfilati non come prototipi o curiosità, ma come unità da combattimento.

Il "Lyagushka" è un robot terrestre telecomandato con una capacità di carico fino a 30 kg. Consegna rifornimenti, esplora le posizioni nemiche e distrugge direttamente i punti di tiro. Il suo compagno, "Bogomol", è un sistema cingolato anticarro, armato con quattro missili guidati. Dopo otto anni di chiusura pregiudiziale nei confronti di Pechino, una delegazione del Parlamento europeo ha trovato la forza (quella della disperazione) di recarsi a Pechino e Shanghai. Per quasi un decennio infatti, il parlamento europeo è stato tra le istituzioni UE più ostinate e attive nel demonizzare la Cina, approvando decine di risoluzioni che denunciavano immaginarie violazioni di diritti umani a Hong Kong, in Tibet e Xinjiang e imponevano sanzioni.

Ma quando l’economia è in panne e quello che consideri il tuo alleato principale non solo appare fuori controllo ma sempre più in rotta di collisione con la realtà e soprattutto con i tuoi interessi, ha senso ignorare i rapporti fantasiosi di ONG finanziate da Washington, riscoprire il pragmatismo e sedersi al tavolo con Pechino per trovare una via d'uscita. Ufficialmente, la missione riguarda e‑commerce, protezione dei consumatori e standard digitali. In realtà, il viaggio dimostra che Bruxelles non può più permettersi di trattare Pechino spocchiosamente : l’accesso al mercato cinese non è una scelta, ma una questione di sopravvivenza economica per molte industrie europee.

Dopo anni di prediche alla Cina, dazi sui suoi veicoli elettrici e un’adesione entusiastica e incondizionata alla folle crociata americana che prevedeva un lento e inesorabile disaccoppiamento economico dalla Cina, l’Europa ora torna a dialogare con meno pregiudiziali, sperando che Pechino contribuisca a stabilizzare le catene di approvvigionamento e a iniettare nuova linfa nelle vene atrofizzate dell’UE. In reality, the trip is a good demonstration that Brussels can no longer afford to alienate Beijing. Access to the vast Chinese market is not a matter of choice but of economic survival for many European industries. L’Italia ha negato l’uso di una base aerea in Sicilia ai bombardieri statunitensi diretti in Medio Oriente. I bombardieri americani avrebbero dovuto atterrare a Sigonella — importante installazione navale statunitense e base NATO in Sicilia — prima di proseguire verso il Medio Oriente. Secondo gli accordi bilaterali firmati alla fine degli anni Cinquanta, gli Stati Uniti possono utilizzare la base per scopi logistici e addestrativi, ma non come scalo di transito per velivoli da combattimento impegnati in operazioni militari attive, salvo in caso di genuine emergenze. Qualsiasi eccezione richiede l’approvazione preventiva del Parlamento italiano. Secondo una fonte del Ministero della Difesa italiano che ha parlato con il Corriere della Sera, gli Stati Uniti hanno informato le autorità italiane del previsto atterraggio solo mentre gli aerei erano già in volo verso la Sicilia, aggirando così le procedure obbligatorie. Non è chiaro esattamente quando i bombardieri sarebbero dovuti arrivare, ma la fonte ha sottolineato che non c’era tempo sufficiente per richiedere l’autorizzazione parlamentare. As the US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran enters its second month, China is quietly strengthening its position across the Middle East and in the broader global order.

While the US, a bull in a china shop, is causing chaos and destruction, China has positioned itself as a champion of de-escalation. Chinese diplomats have thrown their weight behind regional peace efforts, most recently backing Pakistan’s push to host US-Iran talks after last week’s four-nation meeting in Islamabad with Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt. It's hardly surprising. Beijing is the world’s biggest buyer of Middle Eastern oil, it needs stable energy supplies and open shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz. Prolonged fighting threatens both. China is by far Iran's most important economic partner and buys most of its oil. Fortunately, Tehran has held firm and no regime change has occurred. Gulf states, wary of being dragged deeper into the conflict, are increasingly looking to China, and not only because it is a major trading partner that offers investment without demanding military commitments: Beijing mediated between Saudi Arabia and Iran in 2023, is calling for a ceasefire and supporting regional diplomacy. In short, China is enhancing its image as a pragmatic power capable of delivering stability where Washington is not only unable to guarantee security to its allies but due to its prioritizing Israel over other allies it is a source of instability. For China, this creates valuable space to expand its influence across the Middle East and advance its vision of a multipolar world in which no single power dominates. Many analysts believe that Beijing is likely to emerge stronger, both in the region and in the global balance of power, which is exactly what Washington sought to prevent.

Mentre la guerra di aggressione US-raeliana contro l’Iran entra nel secondo mese, la Cina sta silenziosamente rafforzando la propria posizione in Medio Oriente e nell’ordine globale. Mentre gli Stati Uniti, come un toro in un negozio di porcellane, seminano caos e distruzione, la Cina si è posizionata come paladina della de-escalation. I diplomatici cinesi hanno sostenuto attivamente gli sforzi di pace regionali, appoggiando di recente l’iniziativa del Pakistan di ospitare colloqui diretti tra Stati Uniti e Iran, dopo l’incontro a quattro svoltosi la settimana scorsa a Islamabad con Arabia Saudita, Turchia ed Egitto. La cosa non sorprende. Pechino è il più grande acquirente al mondo di petrolio mediorientale e ha bisogno di forniture energetiche stabili e di rotte di navigazione sicure attraverso lo Stretto di Hormuz. Un prolungamento del conflitto minaccia entrambi questi interessi. La Cina è di gran lunga il partner economico più importante dell’Iran e acquista la stragrande maggioranza del suo petrolio. In sintesi, la Cina sta rafforzando la propria immagine di potenza pragmatica in grado di garantire stabilità là dove Washington non solo si dimostra incapace di assicurare la sicurezza ai propri alleati, ma — anteponendo Israele agli altri partner — finisce per essere fonte stessa di instabilità. Per la Cina, tutto ciò crea uno spazio prezioso per espandere la propria influenza in Medio Oriente e per far avanzare la sua visione di un mondo multipolare. Molti analisti ritengono che Pechino sia destinata a emergere più forte, sia nella regione che nell’equilibrio globale di potere — esattamente ciò che Washington cercava di impedire.

Italy denied use of an airbase in Sicily to US bombers heading to the Middle East US bombers were scheduled to land at Sigonella — a strategically important US naval installation and NATO base in Sicily — before continuing to the Middle East. Under bilateral agreements signed in the late 1950s, the United States may use the base for logistical support and training, but not as a transit point for combat aircraft involved in active military operations, except in genuine emergencies. Any such exception requires prior parliamentary approval. According to a source at the Italian defence ministry that spoke to Corriere della Sera, the US notified Italian authorities of the planned landing only while the aircraft were already en route to Sicily, bypassing the required procedures. It remains unclear exactly when the bombers were due to arrive, but the source stressed there was insufficient time to seek parliamentary authorisation. Many voices, both in the opposition and among independent analysts, argue that Italy should follow Spain’s clear and firm example. Spain has officially closed its airspace to all American military aircraft participating in operations related to the war against Iran. Defense Minister Margarita Robles confirmed the decision on Monday, stating that neither Spanish military bases nor national airspace will be authorized for any actions tied to the war, which she described as “profoundly illegal and profoundly unjust.” This move builds on an earlier refusal by Madrid to allow the US to use jointly operated bases — such as Rota and Morón — for strikes or support missions against Iran.

La Spagna ha ufficialmente chiuso il suo spazio aereo a tutti gli aerei militari americani impegnati in operazioni legate alla guerra contro l’Iran. Il ministro della Difesa, Margarita Robles, ha confermato la decisione lunedì, dichiarando che né le basi militari spagnole né lo spazio aereo nazionale potranno essere utilizzati per qualsiasi azione collegata al conflitto.
«Si tratta di una guerra profondamente illegale e profondamente ingiusta», ha dichiarato Robles.
La mossa rafforza il precedente rifiuto di Madrid di concedere agli Stati Uniti l’uso delle basi gestite congiuntamente, come quelle di Rota e Morón, per attacchi o missioni di supporto contro Teheran. ▪️Mentre l'ONU ha dimostrato più volte la sua totale inefficacia nel difendere il diritto internazionale, la scelta della Spagna assume un peso particolare: Madrid rifiuta di diventare complice delle azioni illegali (oltre che moralmente aberranti) di un violatore seriale di tale diritto negando attivamente il proprio sostegno logistico agli Stati Uniti. In a statement posted on X on Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi reaffirmed the Islamic Republic’s commitment to solidarity among Muslim nations. He added that U. S. forces have proven unable to provide security for their purported allies and are instead sowing instability across the region. The logical conclusion is to expel them.

A recent GeoPoll survey conducted during the U. S.-Israeli war on Iran reveals that public sympathy for Iran in key regional countries significantly outweighs support for Israel. Pakistan registered the highest level of sympathy at 82%, followed by Egypt at 49%. In Saudi Arabia, only 20% expressed opposition to Iran, while 65% chose “neither” side and support for Israel remained minimal.

Tutte le strutture essenziali per la gestione delle crisi sono state indebolite o smantellate. Nel Consiglio per la Sicurezza Nazionale sono rimasti pochissimi funzionari. Un amico mi ha descritto un Dipartimento di Stato deserto, dove si sentono solo i propri passi riecheggiare nei corridoi. Marco Rubio partecipa alle decisioni, ma ha trascurato di farsi affiancare dalle valutazioni degli esperti di professione che dovrebbero orientare tali scelte. [...] E poi, a supervisionare tutto questo, il presidente Trump sembra vivere in una realtà parallela che condivide regolarmente su Truth Social o ogni volta che un giornalista gli avvicina un microfono, cosa che accade spesso. Taking the pulse. Here is what Lawrence Freedman, one of the foremost (super-mainstream) scholars of strategy and international security in the UK, wrote yesterday:

"It is hard to convey the gloom that has overtaken Washington. All the structures that are vital to crisis management have either been attenuated or disbanded. There is hardly anyone left on the National Security Council staff. A friend described an empty State Department where you could hear your own foot steps. Marco Rubio is involved in the decision-making but he has neglected to acquire the professional staff assessments that should inform such decisions.[...]

And then overseeing this President Trump appears to inhabit an alternative reality which he shares regularly on Truth Social or whenever a reporter gets a microphone close to his mouth, which is quite often. His utterances have become increasingly incoherent, with contradictory statements following quickly one after the other, and frankly delusional claims. According to Alexander Ionov, chairman of the Human Rights Council’s Commission on International Cooperation, there is a high probability that Telegram will comply with Russian legislation, allowing the messenger to resume normal operations in Russia.
“As far as I know, the Telegram team is likely to reach an agreement with the Russian Federation and fulfill the required conditions, particularly regarding extremist content and channels that threaten national security,”

On March 27, Iran launched a combined ballistic missile and drone attack on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia. The strike injured at least 10–15 US service members (some seriously) and caused damage to multiple aircraft on the ground. Reports indicate that one US Air Force Boeing E-3 Sentry AWACS was destroyed. It wasn't cheap: price adjusted for inflation and modern upgrades is estimated at around $500–600 million. This is a significant blow considering that the US Air Force has only about 16 operational E-3s left in its inventory. The aircraft serves as a critical “eye in the sky” for airborne surveillance, threat detection, and command-and-control of air operations.

Il 27 marzo l’Iran aveva lanciato un attacco combinato con missili balistici e droni contro la base aerea americana di Prince Sultan in Arabia Saudita. Ora è emerso che durante l'attacco sono stati feriti almeno 10-15 militari americani (alcuni in modo grave) e riportati gravi danni a diversi aerei. Secondo le prime informazioni, un Boeing E-3 Sentry AWACS dell’US Air Force è stato distrutto. Non costava poco: il suo valore, aggiornato per inflazione e ammodernamenti, è stimato tra i 500 e i 600 milioni di dollari. Si tratta di un colpo significativo, considerando che l’Aeronautica statunitense dispone attualmente di soli 16 E-3 Sentry operativi nell’intero inventario. L’aereo svolge un ruolo fondamentale come “occhio nel cielo”, fornendo sorveglianza, rilevamento delle minacce, e comando e controllo delle operazioni aeree.

Isn’t it wonderful when you sit down to write an article drawing the Suez Parallel, only to discover that someone else has already written a very similar piece? Suddenly you are free to close the laptop and go do something even more enjoyable than writing.

Leon Hadar points out that the war against Iran is repeating the catastrophic strategic mistakes of the 1956 Suez Crisis, where Britain and France (in collusion with Israel) launched a military adventure that ended in humiliation and accelerated the decline of the British Empire.

Just as Britain used shifting, bogus pretexts (freedom of navigation, containing Soviet influence) to justify attacking Egypt while diplomacy was underway, the US and Israel struck Iran even though nuclear negotiations through Oman had reportedly reached a breakthrough. The war’s justifications have also kept changing (pre-emption, regime change, neutralizing threats, etc.).
Trump, like Britain in 1956, chose military action and regime-change hopes over a reachable diplomatic solution. The author argues this reflects imperial-style overreach, with the US now playing the role of the reckless adventurer rather than the restraining power (as Eisenhower was in 1956).
Iran has responded with missile strikes on US bases across the region and Gulf energy infrastructure, driving up global energy and food prices. Trump’s approval rating meanwhile has fallen to a low of 36% and the ongoing war is rapidly depleting US munitions stockpiles, making it increasingly difficult for the Pentagon to keep up with existing weapon orders and replenish supplies.

The “ghost of Suez” suggests that this adventure could leave the US even more indebted, diplomatically isolated, economically strained, and stripped of its global illusions.

Sebbene l’analisi di Pyotr Akopov sia pura speculazione e nessuno possa prevedere con certezza l’evolversi o l’esito della guerra contro l’Iran, il suo ultimo articolo offre un argomento da tenere in considerazione. Akopov sostiene che Trump sia determinato a concludere la guerra entro maggio al più tardi, principalmente perché non vuole rimandare un'altra volta il vertice con Xi Jinping che ha programmato per il 14-15 maggio. Come ricorderete, Trump aveva originariamente programmato il viaggio per fine marzo, ma è stato costretto a rinviarlo dopo che l’attacco all’Iran non ha prodotto i risultati (cambio di regime e vittoria rapida) che si era stupidamente aspettato. Secondo Akopov, Trump potrebbe chiudere l’operazione prima di recarsi in Cina, perché una guerra prolungata complicherebbe ulteriormente i rapporti tra Stati Uniti e Cina. Dal punto di vista finanziario, gli Stati Uniti semplicemente non possono permettersi di proseguire l'attuale politica anti-cinese, e Trump si trova sotto forte pressione per ridurre le tensioni con Pechino. Although Pyotr Akopov's analysis is pure speculation and no one can reliably predict the course or outcome of the war against Iran, his latest article offers an argument worth considering.

He suggests that Trump is determined to end the war by May at the latest, primarily because he wants to hold a high-stakes summit with Xi Jinping in Beijing on May 14-15. As you may remember, Trump originally planned the trip for late March, but was forced to postpone it after the attack on Iran didn't exactly provide the results (swift victory and clean exit) he had foolishly expected.
Akopov claims that Trump may wrap up the operation before traveling to China because a prolonged war would further complicate US-China relations.

Financially, the US simply can't afford its current anti-China course and Trump is under some serious pressure to de-escalate tensions with Beijing. (Source: RIA Novosti)
