🕋 How to Say Takbeeraat in the First Ten Days of Dhul-Hijjah

- From the established practices of the Salaf, from the Companions رضي الله عنهم and those who came after them, is to make Takbeer when the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah begin.

- They would make unrestricted Takbeer, not only the Takbeer that is restricted to the prayers.

- It has been narrated: “No one ever makes Takbeer except that he is given glad tidings of Jannah.” [At-Tabarani, Al-Mu‘jam Al-Awsat 7779]

- A person should make Takbeer in his car, on his way, and when he enters the Masjid.

- The unrestricted Takbeer begins from the start of the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah.

- After the Fajr of the Day of Arafah, the unrestricted Takbeer and the restricted Takbeer come together.

- The restricted Takbeer is said after the obligatory prayers.

- After giving Salam, a person says: “Astaghfirullah, Astaghfirullah, Astaghfirullah. Allahumma Antas-Salam wa minkas-salam, tabarakta dhal-jalali wal-ikram.”

- Then he makes the restricted Takbeer.

- The restricted Takbeer continues until after ‘Asr on the thirteenth day of Dhul-Hijjah.

- The unrestricted Takbeer also remains during these days.

- So a person continues to make Takbeer during the day, between Dhuhr and ‘Asr, and at other times.

- The unrestricted Takbeer continues until sunset on the thirteenth day of Dhul-Hijjah.

- This is what has been established from the Salaf, at the head of them the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

- Wording of Takbeer: Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, la ilaha illallah, Allahu akbar, Allah akbar, wa Lillahil hamd

عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ رضى الله عنه أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلِّمْنِي دُعَاءً أَدْعُو بِهِ فِي صَلاَتِي.‌‏ قَالَ ﷺ ‏قُلِ:

On the authority of Abu Bakr as-Siddeeq رضي الله عنه, that he said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: “Teach me a Du'aa with which I may supplicate in my Salah.” He ﷺ said: Say:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي ظُلْمًا كَثِيرًا وَلاَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ، فَاغْفِرْ لِي مَغْفِرَةً مِنْ عِنْدِكَ، وَارْحَمْنِي إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ

O Allah, I have oppressed myself (with) a lot of oppression, and none forgives sins except You. So forgive me with a forgiveness from You and have mercy upon me. Indeed, You are Al-Ghafoor, Ar-Raheem.

صحيح البخاري (٨٣٤)

Benefit:

If the greatest and most righteous human being after the Prophets and Messengers, Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه, asked our Prophet ﷺ to teach him a Du‘aa with which he could supplicate to Allah, and the Prophet ﷺ taught him a Du‘aa to ask Allah for forgiveness, then who after Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه can ever feel safe from their sins and from begging Allah for forgiveness?

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:

بَدَأَ الْإِسْلَامُ غَرِيبًا، وَسَيَعُودُ كَمَا بَدَأَ غَرِيبًا، فَطُوبَى لِلْغُرَبَاءِ.

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah, who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Islam began as something strange, and it will return to being strange as it began, so glad tidings to the strangers.”

صحيح مسلم (١٤٥)

قِيلَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، وَمَنِ الْغُرَبَاءُ؟ قَالَ: الَّذِينَ يُصْلِحُونَ إِذَا فَسَدَ النَّاسُ.

It was said, “O Messenger of Allah, who are the strangers?” He ﷺ said: “Those who rectify things when people have become corrupt.”

مسند أحمد (١٦٦٩٠)

Benefit:
This path is lonely by default - you’re standing against the majority of the world to rectify it. But that’s exactly where its virtue lies. The road you’ve chosen is one of truth and honor, not popularity.

So don’t see your solitude as something negative. See it for what it really is: a glad tiding that you’ve been set apart for something greater.

💎 #3 Gems from Ilm With AMAU: Decoding the Fine Line Between خَلْق (Creation) and خُلُق (Character)

قال الإمام الراغب الأصفهاني: والخَلْقُ والخُلُقُ في الأصل واحد… لكن خصّ الخَلْق بالهيئات والأشكال والصّور المدركة بالبصر، وخصّ الخُلُق بالقوى والسّجايا المدركة بالبصيرة.

Al-Imam ar-Raghib al-Asfahaani said: Al-Khalq and al-Khuluq share the same root; however, al-Khalq is used for physical forms, shapes, and appearances perceived by sight, while al-Khuluq is used for inner qualities and dispositions perceived by insight.

Al-Mufradat fi Gharib al-Qur'an (1/297)

Benefit:

From this, we understand a principle: the word خَلْق refers to outward forms perceived by the eye, whereas خُلُق refers to inner qualities perceived through insight.

This draws a clear distinction between what is seen of you and who you truly are within, so real rectification is not merely a surface-level fix of your appearance, but a deliberate rebuilding of your character and manners from within.
